Thesis and Poster Competition at BUET

A day long undergraduate thesis and poster competition was held at BUET on December 30, 2011 as a part of 3rd International Conference on Chemical Engineering. The competition was jointly organised by the Chemical Engineering Department and Bangladesh Chemical Engineers' Forum (BCEF). The ceremony was followed by a cultural night featuring the cultural heritage of Bangladesh. Participants were provided certificates.

Daffodil International University Air Rover Scout Unit officially launched “Training Camp” and “Oath Taking Ceremony” on January 13, 2012 at the permanent campus at Ashulia. The four day long training camp for the Rover was arranged from January 11-14, 2012. The camp included training, Oath Taking Ceremony and Grand Camp Fire.


Discussion on 'Mental Stress' at SUST

The Department of Social Work of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) organised a discussion on 'How to deal with stress in everyday life' on January 4 in the campus with Psychologist Yeshim Iqbal, Research coordinator of Harvard University.

“Stress grows especially in university students when they cannot keep pace with the time. As a result they lose the joy and willingness to live and choose the path of suicide,” said Yeshim.

She also said that no proper field has been created yet in our country to deal with it. She hoped that the hotline based psychological counseling centre will be started soon in our country like USA.


US Presidential Envoy visits IUB

US Presidential Envoy for Science, Dr. Rita Colwell, a distinguished Professor from the University of Maryland, USA visited the Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) campus on January 10, 2012.

Meeting with the Vice Chancellor (In Charge), Professor M Omar Rahman she highlighted the importance of a liberal arts education which provides a holistic approach to learning. The discussion touched on common interests concerning all parties including IUB's International Center for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD).

The meeting was also attended by Dr Salemmul Huq, Director ICCCAD, Ina F Islam
Assistant Director ICCCAD, Tanvir Ahmed Haroon, Lecturer, School of Environmental Science and Management (SESM) and the students of SESM.


Annual Cultural Programme held at BU

Doll's House' by Henrik Ibsen was staged by the students of English Department of Bangladesh University (BU) on January 9, 2012 at its auditorium as part of the annual cultural programme of the department. Quazi Shihab Ansari Azher, Member, Board of Trustees graced the occasion as chief guest. Professor Mostafa Kamaluddin, Head, Department of English spoke on the occasion.

The best students of different semesters were awarded for their academic results at the end of the programme.


Orientation Programmes

East West University (EWU)

The orientation programme of new students enrolled into the BBA Programme of EWU for the Spring semester was held on January 12, 2012 in the auditorium of the university.

Professor Ahmed Shafee, Vice Chancellor of EWU was the chief guest while Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, President, Board of Trustees of EWU chaired the whole session. Professor Dr Muniruddin Ahmed, Pro-Vice Chancellor was special guest in the programme.

Bangladesh Agricultural University

An orientation programme for the newly admitted students in Level-1 and semister-1 under six faculties of BAU for 2012 session was held at BAU Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin auditorium on January 5. Bangladesh University Grants Commission Chairman Professor Dr A K Azad Chowdhury was the chief guest.

Jahangirnagar University (JU)

Freshers' orientation programme of students admitted in 2011-2012 academic year of JU was held on January 7, 2012. UGC Chairman (State Minister) Professor A K Azad Chowdhury was the chief guest. Professor Shariff Enamul Kabir, Vice-Chancellor, JU presided over the function. Registrar Abu Bkr Siddique introduced the freshers to the respective Deans and Directors.

Raffles Institute of Higher Education, Dhaka

Raffles organised an orientation programme for its January 2012 intake on January 8, 2012. During the orientation programme, the College Director, Terence Tan, shared with students and parents the necessity of premium education in Bangladesh, especially in Business, Fashion and Design.

He also mentioned that all students in Raffles are very special as they are the future entrepreneurs and designers in their respective fields and will contribute greatly to building a better future for Bangladesh.

The Assistant College Director, Cassandra Lee then shared the Academic and Administrative policies of the Institute with the students and parents.

Bangladesh University of Professionals

BUP organised an Orientation Programe of BBA, MBA and Evening MBA Programme of new academic session 2011-2012 on January 1. Vice Chancellor, BUP, Major General Abul Kalam Md. Humayun Kabir ndu, psc graced the occasion as chief guest. He said, “We, the BUP are fully aware that the 21st century requires rigorous and imaginative education and training to 'see through fogs of uncertainty' and to 'think differently' to bring out solutions.”

Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB)

IUB organised an orientation programme on January 14, 2012 at its permanent campus at Bashundhara for the newly admitted students of the spring 2012 .

Professor M Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor (In-Charge) depicted the distinctive nature of IUB education which places importance of professional education on the foundation of cross-disciplinary liberal arts curricula.

The newly admitted students visited different Schools, departments, Library, Cafeteria.
