Australian Alumni Excellence Awards 2012

The Australian Alumni Excellence Awards were presented at an award ceremony held in Dhaka on January 27, organised by the Australian Trade Commission, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Chief guest at the proceedings was Professor Gowher Rizvi, Advisor to the Honourable Prime Minister (Foreign affairs) with Special Guest Professor Dr A K Azad Chowdhury, Chairman (State Minister), University Grants Commission presenting awards on the night. These awards endeavour to honour Bangladeshi alumni from Australian education institutions who have excelled in their studies and/or made an outstanding contribution in their chosen field.


SARASWATI PUJA CELEBRATION

Northern University Bangladesh (NUB)

Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) arranged 'Bani Archana' ceremony for the Hindu Students on the occasion of 'Saraswati Puja' on January 28. Professor M Shamsul Haque, Vice-Chancellor, NUB was as the chief guest. The ceremony ended with distribution of Prasad and a cultural performance by the students.

Jahangirnagar University (JU)

Members of the Hindu community of Jahangirnagar University celebrated Saraswati Puja at JU Selim Al Deen Muktomancha on January 28 with much fanfare and festivity seeking blessings of the Goddess of knowledge, wisdom, music and art. Professor Shariff Enamul Kabir, Vice-Chancellor, JU visited the puja mandaps and greeted the members of the JU Hindu community. JU teachers, students with their families, guest and other peoples took part in the Saraswati Puja.


Workshop on Effective Teaching at IUB

The Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organised a day long workshop on 'Effective Teaching and Learning' for the faculty members of the university on January 19. The workshop was conducted by Professor Serajul I Bhuiyan, Auburn University, Montgomery, USA. In the workshop Professor Bhuiyan discussed on effective teaching strategies, characteristics of effective teaching, assessment and course evaluation.

Professor Dr A K Azad Chowdhury, Chairman, (State Minister), University Grants Commission of Bangladesh was present as the chief guest. Certificates were provided to the participants.


Field Trip Arranged by NUB

The department of Public Health, Northern University Bangladesh, organised a field trip on Januray 21, 2012 at Dhamrai, Savar, Dhaka. It was held under the supervision of Dr Sheikh Mohammad Alif, Senior lecturer and Course Instructor for Practicum course of Department of Public Health. The main purpose of this field trip was to collect data on knowledge women have, about contraceptives and their uses. 15 students participated in the field trip.


MoU between BIFT and NIFT

BGMEA Institute of Fashion and Technology (BIFT), Dhaka-Bangladesh has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on academic cooperation with National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), New Delhi, India on September 6, 2011 at the Prime Minister's Office, Dhaka, during the visit of Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.

As part of the agreement for the first time four meritorious students of BIFT of 092 batch Md Suzan Molla, Mohammad Farhad Hossain, Mohammad Nasirul Islam and Md Mahamudul Hasan Mehedi left Dhaka on January 23, 2012 for higher education to complete their 6th semester for six months at NIFT, Calcutta branch, India.


Blood Donation Camp held at IUBAT

Professor Dr M Alimullah Miyan, Vice-Chancellor, IUBAT inaugurated the Blood Donation Camp as a part of a month long (January 9- February 5, 2012 ) celebration for 21st Foundation Day of the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT)on January 24, 2012. Quantum Foundation and the College of Nursing arranged this programme.There is a big gap between the demand and supply to fulfil the requirement of blood for the ailing people. Professor Miyan thanked Quantum Foundation for their participation in such humanitarian program.


Orientation Programmes


Southeast University (SEU)

The orientation and Freshers' Reception Programme of spring semester 2012 of the School of Science and Engineering of Southeast University (SEU) was held at SEU Seminar Hall on January 21. Rasheda K Choudhury, Former Adviser, Caretaker Government, The People's Republic of Bangladesh was the Chief Guest and Sk Jamiluddin, Director of Akij Group was the Special Guest while Professor ANM Meshquat Uddin, Vice Chancellor (Acting) was the Chair.

Chief Guest Rasheda K Choudhury welcomed the students with her inspiring words. Professor ANM Meshquat Uddin suggested that the student life is the best time to acquire knowledge.

Asian University of Bangladesh (AUB)

AUB observed the orientation programme of spring semester 2012 on January 27 at Ayesha auditorium. Professor Abdul Hasan M Sadeq, Vice-Chancellor, AUB was present as the chief guest. He advised the newly-enrolled students to determine their educational goal and destination.

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB)

ULAB organised its Spring 2012 Freshers' orientation on January 29. Emphasising ULAB's missions of sustainability, active learning and liberal arts practice, the orientation consisted of mixed media and video presentations about ULAB's code of conduct, handbook, library, career service center and other facilities. quiz games were arranged to encourage learning through fun. Professor Imran Rahman, Acting Vice Chancellor, ULAB addressed the students to reach this truth through knowledge. Later, a student band concert was arranged.
