14th ICCIT hosted by AIUB

International Conference on Computer and Information Technology (ICCIT) conference series have been providing a platform for researchers and industry practitioners to share complex problems and their solutions, and to shape new trends in Computer and Information Technology (CIT). The conference provides fertile ground for cultivating multifaceted aspects of CIT and also helps the CIT professionals, scientists, engineers, educators, researchers and students from all over the world to meet and exchange their scientific ideas. The willingness of practitioners to collaborate can be influenced by the goals of ICCIT. The researchers can share their knowledge and research tools, their available resources, and that provides the opportunities to the practitioners to link and work together.

American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) is well known for their innovation and success in hosting many national and international workshops and conferences. To fulfill the above ICCIT conference objectives, the 14th International Conference on Computer and Information Technology (ICCIT 2011) was successfully organised and hosted by AIUB as part of the university's 16th anniversary.

The inaugural session was held on December 22, 2011 at the AIUB Auditorium. Architect Yeafesh Osman, honourable state minister, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh was the chief guest. Special Guest was Dr Carmen Zita Lamagna, Vice Chancellor, AIUB. Professor Dr Tafazzal Hossain, Chairman, Organising Committee, Vice President, Academics, AIUB and Dr Md Aynal Haque, Chairman, IEEE Bangladesh Section were present to grace the occasion.

The conference provides fertile ground for cultivating multifaceted aspects of CIT.

This year's conference received 353 submissions of which 310 were reviewed and 126 were finally accepted. A team of 92 reviewers, from outside Bangladesh evaluated these manuscripts. 21 separate technical sessions, four eminent keynote speeches, and more than hundreds of high-quality papers were presented during the whole conference. ICCIT papers of consecutive last three years are also being included in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library for world-wide disseminations. Selected enhanced versions of conference accepted papers. Upon further exhaustive reviews, they will be included in one of the four archival journal special issues -Journal of Communications, Journal of Computers, Journal of Multimedia and Journal of Networks.

The closing ceremony of the conference was held on December 24, 2011 at the Ball Room of the Hotel Westin, Gulshan 2, Dhaka. The chief guest Professor Dr A K Azad Chowdhury, Chairman (State Minister), University Grants Commission of Bangladesh and Special Guest Dr Carmen Zita Lamagna, Vice Chancellor, AIUB, were present to grace the convention.

Smokey Robinson

Singer, songwriter, record producer, record executive William "Smokey" Robinson Jr was born on February 19, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, in the rough Brewster ghetto, a poor and generally dangerous neighborhood. Young Smokey grew up listening to his mother's records, including the works of B B King, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Sarah Vaughan, and Billy Eckstine. When Robinson was ten, his mother died, and his sister Geraldine took him in, raising him along with her ten children. The family was poor but close-knit, and Robinson spent his youth writing songs and singing in local bands. Robinson would not consider a professional career until he graduated from high school, and even then he tried barber school and courses in dentistry before giving his full attention to music. Robinson has said that he did, in fact, enroll in college and began classes that January, studying electrical engineering. However, The Miracles' first record was released a few weeks later and Robinson left school shortly thereafter, his college career having lasted approximately two months. The Miracles would go on to issue singles on both End Records and Chess Records, and Robinson suggested to Gordy that he start a label of his own! In 1959, Gordy founded Tamla Records, which he soon reincorporated as Motown. The Miracles, Robinson's rhythm and blues band, were among the label's first signees. Gordy and Robinson had a synergistic relationship, with Robinson providing a foundation for Motown's hit-making success and Gordy acting as a mentor for the budding singer and songwriter.
