Field Trip by EWU MBA Club
EWU MBA Club arranged a field trip to Kapasia gas and oil exploration drilling project under Gazipur district on March 10. This project was carried out by the only government owned oil and gas exploration and production company BAPEX (Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Ltd).
Acting Drilling In-charge, Salam Biswash welcomed the students and showed all the complex processes. The drilling and testing of the 3300 meter exploration well is going to cost around Tk 600 million, but it is estimated to have a reserve of 660 bcf (billion cubic feet) of gas of which 430 bcf may be recovered. With a shortage of around 4.4 bcf gas per day compared to the growing domestic demand for natural gas, this new supply, if found, will create a huge boost to the economy.
While returning, the students also visited the village home of Tajuddin Ahmed, the first Prime Minister of Bangladesh, at Dardaria village.
Painting Competition held at JKKNIU

A painting competition for children was held at Jatiyo Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) on March 17, marking the 92nd birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Students of different educational institutions in Trishal. The participants were categorised into three groups-'Ka', 'Kha' and 'Ga', where around 40 students of primary and secondary level participated.
Three faculty members of Department of Fine Arts, JKKNIU, Tapon Kumar Sarker, Safin Omar and Emdadur Rashed judged the competition. Professor Syed Giasuddin Ahmed, Vice-chancellor, JKKNIU inaugurated the competition as the chief guest.
Seminar on Human Trafficking held at NUB

The Department of Law, Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) arranged a seminar titled 'Incorporating Human Trafficking Laws in Curriculum: Sharing Experience' on March 15, jointly with USAID and WINROCK INTERNATIONAL. Todd Andrews, Acting Director, USAID was the Guest of Honor, Professor Abu Yousuf Md Abdullah, Chairman, Northern University Trust was the chief guest and Professor M Shamsul Haque, Vice-Chancellor, NUB was the special guest in the seminar. Professor A W M Abdul Huq, Dean, Faculty of Law chaired the seminar.
Todd said that, USAID is working to protect human trafficking and safety migration all over the world. This seminar will help students of NUB to build awareness on human trafficking, international migration and refugee law. Professor Abdullah highlighted the importance to take effective measures to implement 'Anti human trafficking and illegal migration law' of Bangladesh.
Professor Khawaja Amjad Saeed visits Presidency University
Eminent educationist Professor Khawaja Amjad Saeed, Principal, Hailey College of Banking and Finance, University of the Punjab, Pakistan, and Former Pro Vice-Chancellor, Punjab University visited Presidency University on March 9. He was received by Professor Muhammad Mahboob Ali, Head, M H School of Business. Professor Saeed discussed various issues about the developments of students and highlighted the importance of a well-planned BBA/MBA/EMBA curriculum in the business schools. He also praised the first issue of Presidency University Journal, a research-based, peer-reviewed magazine.
Training on Legal Research held
A two-day long training course on Legal Research and Writing was organised from March 9-10 by the South Asian Institute of Advanced Legal and Human Rights Studies (SAILS). Professor Mizanur Rahman, Chairman, National Human Rights Commission distributed certificates among the participants as the chief guest at the closing session. He called for immediate reform in the 'legal education' in Bangladesh. He said that a sound legal education system is likely to help create a poor-friendly legal and judicial system.
The resource persons of the training were Dr Abdullah Al Faruque, Professor, Department of Law, University of Chittagong, Dr Ridwanul Hoque, Associate Professor, Department of Law, University of Dhaka, Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman, Metropolitan Additional Sessions Judge Dhaka, Al Asad Md Mahmudul Islam, Senior Judicial Magistrate, Rangpur, Dr Naim Ahmed, Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh, and Md Zahid Hossain, Expert (Monitoring and Investigation), UNDP-National Human Rights Commission Capacity Development Project.
SAILS is working for promoting quality legal and human rights education in Bangladesh and in the South Asian region.

Inauguration of Chemistry Lab

Inauguration of newly built chemistry lab at International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) was held on March 6.
Professor Abul Khair, Chair, Department of Chemistry said that the new lab will help students acquire comprehensive knowledge based on practical analyses and verification. Professor M Alimullah Miyan, Vice Chancellor and Founder, IUBAT said the new lab will add new dimension in terms of disseminating knowledge, research work and stepping into alternative study areas in line with global changes.

President of Japan Society on Water Environment visits IUBAT
Professor Jun Nakajima, Ritsumeikan University, and President, Japan Society on Water Environment, visited IUBAT recently. During his short stay the Japanese environmental professional expressed the intention for developing collaborative effort to address water pollutions at the adjacent river Turag. The new Chemistry lab of IUBAT will extensively help the collaborative research project in mitigating large scale water pollutions which is affecting public health and environment of long river belt outskirts of Dhaka City, he visualised.
