Seminar on E-Library at EDU

On April 3, a seminar on 'The Use of E-Library' was held at the East Delta University (EDU) where the keynote speaker, Associate Professor Mir Md Nurul Absar, Coordinator, MBA, EDU said that database ASABE, LYELL, Balckwell, Springer, Taylor, journals, books and e-resources can be instantly accessed through e-library. By studying the books and journals through the database, students and faculty members can comprehend the contemporary theories and researches. The chief guest of the seminar, Professor M Sikander Khan, Vice Chancellor, EDU, said that e-library will play a vital role in research and case based studies.


Graduation of IBA-JU celebrated

Institute of Business Administration, Jahangirnagar University (IBA-JU) organised a graduation party for the 15th batch on April 27 for 31 graduates in Master of Business Administration. The party started with the presentation of the 15th batch of IBA-JU. After that Dr Mohammad Baktiar Rana, Director of IBA-JU, Md Arfan Ali, SEVP of Bank Asia, Faheem Tanveer Ahmed, Business Head, SAP, Chowdhury Golam Kibria, and Associate Professor of IBA-JU, Md Alamgir Hossen, Batch Manager, 15th batch, chaired at the graduation party at the auditorium of JU.

After the guests' speeches, résumé book of 15th batch was inaugurated. Dr Mohammad Baktiar Rana said, “The IBA-JU was founded to materialise one vision--providing business organisations with world class executives. We intend to contribute more to the changing scenario of the world. Our students are well prepared to shape up the world.” Md Abul Hasnath, representative of graduates, asserted that, IBA-JU was the right choice and they are proud to have Masters Degree from the IBA-JU.


Fair Play 2012 is Open

The 3rd edition of Fair Play is now open! Artists are invited to submit their anti-corruption videos to the Fair Play website until 24 July 2012. Fair Play is a global music video competition for original songs by young bands (18-35 years) on the theme of anti-corruption. The three winning bands will win a trip to Brazil to participate in the 3rd GYAC Voices Against Corruption Forum and perform live in Brasilia at the 15th International Anti-Corruption Conference!

MoU signed between UIU and BASIS

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between United International University (UIU) and Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) on April 24. Professor Hasan Sarwar, Head of Department of Computer Science and Engineering, UIU, and Mahboob Zaman, President, BASIS signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations.

According to this MoU, UIU and BASIS are expected to do research on IT related engineering, practice, solution, training and services for the Bangladesh software market.

Suman Ahmed, Assistant Professor and Director, Students Affairs, Dr Salekul Islam, Assistant Professor, CSE, UIU, and Fahim Mashroor, Senior Vice-President, BASIS, Tamzid Siddiq Spondon, Joint Secretary General, BASIS were present at the ceremony.


SEMINARS AT DAFFODIL INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY

A seminar on 'Technology of water savings, energy savings and control of carbon emission for sustainable growth of textile wet processing industries' was organised by the Department of Textile Engineering of Daffodil International University (DIU) on April 21. Professor M Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, DIU and Professor S M Mahbub-ul-Haque Majumder, Dean, Faculty of Science and Information Technology were present as the chief guest and special guest respectively.

While presenting the keynote paper Engineer Asif M Sami stressed on the importance of treatment plant for every textile industry to keep the environment refreshed and mitigate the adverse effect of climate change.

Seminar on 'Nipah Virus'

"Nipah Virus Infection (NiV) is an emerging infectious disease in the South-East Asia Region as well as in Bangladesh,” said the speakers at a seminar titled 'Nipah Virus: A Threat to Human Health', collaboratively arranged by the Department of Pharmacy, Department of Public Health and Department of Nutrition and Food Engineering (NFE) of Daffodil International University (DIU) on April 28.

Professor Mahmudur Rahman, Director, IEDCR, DGHS was present as the chief guest. He highlighted the mode of transmission and risk factors of Nipah Virus. Dr Salamat Khandker, Senior National Consultant, WHO, Environmental Health Unit (WHO-EHU) presented the keynote paper.


UGC Chairman honoured with Bangabandhu Award

UGC Chairman (State Minister) Professor A K Azad Chowdhury has been adorned with Bangabandhu Award. Bangabandhu Council Australia honoured him with this prestigious award for his outstanding contribution to the field of education and research for the year 2012.

The award was conferred on Professor Azad Chowdhury at 'Boishakhai Mela 2012' held in Sydney Olympic Park, Australia on April 21. Among others, Sheikh Shamimul Huque, President, Bangabandhu Council Australia, Tushar Roy, General Secretary, Bangabandhu Council Australia and Dr Abdur Razzaque, Senior Member of Executive Committee, Bangabandhu Council Australia were present on the occasion.


Seminar arranged by Center for General Education, NUB

Center for General Education, Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) organised a seminar on 'Students Expectations and Achievements from NUB' on April 16. Professor Saeed Alamgir Jafar, Dean, Faculty of Business was the chief guest in the seminar. Shayama Akhter, Senior Lecturer, GED presented the key note paper.

Professor Mahmudul Alam, Professor Mustafa Kamal, Professor of Business Administration and Md Lutfor Rahman, Coordinator, BBA Programme were the discussants at the seminar.
