Rejuvenating Memories

Sumaiya Ahsan Bushra

“Everything you can imagine is real.”
-Pablo Picasso

The famous Picasso paved the path for the future generations to be inspired by the magic of art. Today's youth not only love art but indulge in it greatly and often tend to explore other areas of art as well. One such diverse and dynamic field is photography-- a form of art celebrated widely in Bangladesh. To celebrate the devotion for photography, the members of Bangladeshi Photographers (BP), a youth group consisting mainly of young students, organised their latest photographic venture titled 'Bangladeshi Photographers Challenge - Life and Beyond!' season-II. This is a flagship photography contest combined with an exhibition organised by BP.

Around a hundred creative minds travelled through time and space to recreate moments of their lives. Their brilliant compositions and heart throbbing incidents of lives helped them secure a place in the final list. These photographs will be featured at the Dhaka Art Centre from May 25- 30, 2012, from 3 pm to 8 pm.

Ata Islam Khan Mojlish, a secondary school student and also one of the organisers of BP, states, “The exhibition is like a mind maze where one can just close their eyes and let their imaginations flow. It almost makes one venture into territories they have already visited and enables one to rebuild new memories. So, we expect our audience to stop, look around and imagine. What will form in front of their eyes is bound to catch their fancy.”

This year, BP will be celebrating elements of life through photography. As we race every day, parts of our lives become more lifeless and meaningless. Where the emotions fight their battle to stay rhythmic and deep, the colour palate fades into a whole different set of shades. The photographers have tried to capture those instants and turn them into a memento.

Further on, the competition anticipates a range of work from different age groups. It is not limited to just the youth of Bangladesh but goes beyond. This shows the importance of experience in one's life and the value of those moments. Photographs will be exhibited under three categories-- A, B and C. For A, Colours of Life, participants are between 14-21 years of age, for Rhythm of Life, 22-28 and Intensity of Life, 29 years and above.

Apart from the pictures, other exciting moments will be presented by the attendance of prominent personalities from different creative fields. The members of the jury at the exhibition will be Mohammed Rakibul Hasan, Mohammed Moniruzzaman, Pranabesh Das and Sumon Yousuf. The names of the grand winners will also be unveiled on the first day of the ceremony and prizes will be distributed as well. BP will also be hosting a few other events during the exhibition period at the venue.

If you are a lover of art or you need to rediscover yourself, then this exhibition will direct you in the right way. As you view the magnificent works of some of these creative geniuses, you will delve in the sea of motivation and hope.
