IUB wins the TIB Debate Championship 2012

Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) Team 1 comprising of Sajid Safwan and Hashmi Rafsanjani, was crowned Champion of the TIB- DMCDC Anti-Corruption Debate Festival 2012 held during May 25-26, 2012 on the Dhaka Medical College campus. Furthermore, Hashmi Rafsanjani was also adjudged to be the Best Speaker of the tournament. The championship was organised by Dhaka Medical College Debating Club (DMCDC) in collaboration with Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB).

Debating on matters of corruption and transparency, the tournament saw fierce exchange of arguments on matters of public policy, media and foreign development aid disbursements through transparent practices by reducing the bottleneck 'bureaucracy'. The possibility of reducing corruptions in developing countries by empowering the civil society ensuring democratic engagement and awareness was also discussed.

All the top universities of Bangladesh participated in the championship. They include North South University (NSU), Institute of Business Administration (IBA) of DU, Islamic University of Technology (IUT), East West University, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka Medical College and a few more. The finalist teams were IUB-1, IUT-1, NSU-1 and NSU-2. The final debate was adjudicated by the distinguished judges of Bangladesh, and IUB-1 was ranked first. That gave IUB debaters the opportunity to bring home the prestigious crown.
