'Sticks & Stones' welcomes Young Writers

The Anthology, called Sticks & Stones, which includes fiction, literature and poetry, is scheduled for publication on July 2012. Excerpts, fiction, literature and poetry submissions on any topic are welcomed. Submissions will be held in two categories. One being, write-ups (fiction/ literature) from between 1500 to 6000 words and category two includes short pieces (flash fiction) within 100 words. In addition, there will also be a photography competition attached to this project.

Submissions should be made to, sticksandstonesvol1@gmail.com. Multiple entries are also welcome. The deadline for submission is June 15, 2012.


Birth Anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam observed at AUB

On May 25, 2012, Asian University of Bangladesh organised a discussion and cultural programme on 113th birth Anniversary of National Poet of Bangladesh Kazi Nazrul Islam.

As chief guest Md Quddus Khan Registrar of AUB was present in the programme. Kazi Nazrul Islam's poetry celebrates the triumph of humanity, while his music soothes the senses with its embrace of eternal love.

A K M Salahuddin, Proctor of AUB presided over the programme. The heads of the departments, AVC, assistant proctor, teachers, employees and students were present at the programme. Mohammad Imtiaj, Public Relations Officer and Head of the short course 'Journalism' was the anchor of the programme.


Tribute to the Poet

To observe the 113th birth Anniversary of the national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, the Fine Arts department of Jattiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University staged jatrapala “Madhumala”. The students of Fine Arts Department participated in this jatrapala, which was directed by Ferdous Wahid. The head of the Department of Fine Arts, Vice-Chancellor of university and the students of different departments were present at the show.


Certificate giving ceremoney at BAU

A certificate giving ceremony for the participants in a month long training on 'Advance Course on Communicative English' was held at Language lab, Department of Languages of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) on May 24.

Department of Language, Faculty of Agriculture of BAU organised the training course. A total of 40 participants took part in the training course.

Vice-Chancellor of BAU Professor Dr Md Rafiqual Hoque was the chief guest at the certificate giving ceremony.

Professor Dr Md Abul Kashem, Head of the Department of Language presided over the closing session. Coordinator of Committee for Advanced Studies and Research Professor Dr M Golam Shahi Alam, Director of BAU Public Relations Dr Aminur Rahman Choudhury, course coordinator Muhammad Shajedul Arifeen also spoke on the occasion.

The vice-chancellor said that the students who want to excel, they should be skilled in independent thinking, communicative power and English Language.

Later, the vice-chancellor distributed certificates among the participants.


Admission Fair at BU

A three day long Admission Fair of Bangladesh University started on May 24, 2012. The fair was inaugurated by the Member, Board of Trustees Dr Shagufta Mahmood. The fair will continue from May 28 to May 30.

During the fair, students will get the opportunity to know about university managements, and lab facilities available in the ten departments.

Students will also be able to interact with experienced and senior teachers of all the departments of the university. Additionally, student counselors will extend their cooperation regarding all sorts of information during the fair.

Northern University Bangladesh (NUB), UNDP and Dhaka Ahsania Mission jointly organised a Seminar on 'How to Earn Online' on May 27, 2012 at Banani Campus of NUB. Md Nazrul Islam Khan, PS-1 to the Prime Minister and National Project Director, A2I Programme, PMO was the chief guest of the seminar. Professor Dr Abu Yousuf Md Abdullah, Acting Vice Chancellor of NUB and Chairman, Northern University Bangladesh Trust and Dr M Ehsanur Rahman, Executive Director, Dhaka Ahsania Mission were special guests in the programme. ABM Rashedul Hassan, Treasurer, NUB chaired the seminar.

The Key Note was presented by Md Akhlakuzzaman, Internet Marketing Analyst, Ahsania Institute of Technology and Business (AITB). Among others, Lt Col (Rtd) Aqtedar Ahmed Siddiqui, Registrar, Prof Saeed Alamgir Jafar, Dean, Faculty of Business and several other important personnel were present. Alongside, a hundred students attended the seminar.

Chief Guest Md Nazrul Islam Khan said that in the phase of online earning we are far away from where most of the countries are, including India earning a number of remittances through this way. He pointed out that one can earn around 2 lakh taka per month through this method.


Seminar at East Delta University

A seminar entitled “Know EDU & Beyond” was held in East Delta University campus on May 19. The Associate Dean of EDU and Chairperson of the seminar A Qaiyum Chowdhury informed the students about the memorandum between EDU and Central Michigan University, USA. Corporate leader, CEO of International Supply Chain Management Education Alliance, EDU faculty and the chief speaker of the seminar, Ijajzur Rahman said that to materialise any goal one has to be efficient. He discussed the skills of managers in the 21st century. The sourcing manager of British American Tobacco Maruf Sobhan said that to be a successful businessman one must have the coordination skill, intelligence and coherence. He inspired the students to think big and dream big. A welcome speech was given by the chairman of Engineering Department, Assistant Professor Rafia Akther. Students and other teachers were present at the programme.


Orientation Programme

A two-day long orientation programme was held on 23-24 May 2012 at United International University (UIU) for the newly admitted students of summer 2012.

UIU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr M Rezwan Khan presided over the ceremony while Professor Saifur Rahman, Director, Virginia Tech Advanced Research Institute, USA, was present as the chief guest.

Professor Dr Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr Golam Rahman, Advisor, Professor Dr Habibur Rahman, Dean, School of Business and Economics, Professor A S M Salahuddin, Registrar, Professor Dr M Sadiqul Islam, Coordinator, MBA Programme, Professor Dr Hasnan Ahmed, BBA Programme Director, Suman Ahmmed, Director of Students Affairs, spoke at the programme.
