MOU between Gono Bishwabidyalay and Heidelberg University, Germany

Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering is a new discipline of study in Bangladesh. Presently only Gono Bishwabidyalay offers such course both at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. The graduates of this department are now engaged in different hospitals and working as an essential member of radiation therapy treatment team. More and more such graduates will be required in future in the country as radiation therapy especially for cancer patients using linear Accelerator (LINAC) become available.

Recently Professor Dr Mesbahuddin Ahamad, Vice-Chancellor of Gono Bishwabidyalay visited Germany and discussed about collaboration in the field of medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering with Heidelberg University. Subsequently during his stay in Germany a Cooperation Agreement between Gono Bishwabidyalay and Mannheim Medical Center of Heidelberg University, Germany was singed on May 22, 2012. Professor Dr Mesbahuddin Ahamad, visiting Professor and Programme Coordinator at Gono Bishwabidyalay, Professor Dr Golam Abu Zakaria, Vice Chancellor of Heidelberg University, Professor Dr Thomas Pfeiffer and Programme Coordinator Professor Dr Fedrick Wenz signed the co-operation agreement. Amongst others Professor Dr Guenther Hartman of Heidelberg University and Medical Physicist Dr Volker Steil of the Medical Center of Mannheim were present at the signing ceremony.

The Cooperation Agreement includes: Knowledge transfer by exchange of Faculty members, Teachers Fellowship programme to provide a supportive professional experience for fresh recruits, up-gradation of the Department of medical Physics of Gono Bishwabidyalay , joint research for M Sc and PhD students.
