BRACU receives Accreditation from IAB

The Department of Architecture of BRAC University recently received accreditation from Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB). BRACU is the first to receive the official recognition amongst 16 public and private universities that teaches Architecture in the country. This recognition is under the Accreditation Standards of Institute of Architects Bangladesh (ASIAB).


World Quality Commitment (WQC) Award selects ASAUB

ASA University Bangladesh has been selected for World Quality Commitment (WQC) Award in the gold category by BID (Business Initiative Directions). On the basis of WQC regulations and criteria of the QC 100 Total Quality Management Model, ASAUB has been selected for this reward. The award will be given at the International Quality Convention which will be held in Paris on October 28 - 29, 2012.


36th Death Anniversary of National Poet

Asian University Bangladesh (AUB) observed the 36th Death Anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam at its own Campus. Professor Dr Abul Hasan M Sadeq, Vice Chancellor, AUB was present as the chief guest of the programme. He said Nazrul was a poet of equity and humanity. His writings inspired the freedom fighters during 1971. He urged the new generation to follow the spirit of poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and to establish justice and resist unfairness in the society. Dr Gulshan Ara, Acting Head of Department of Bangla, AUB presented an article on Nazrul's life and his writings on humanity, beauty and so on.


Seminar on 'Quality in Higher Education' at IUBAT

A seminar on Quality in Higher Education was organised by International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT ) on August 29, 2012 at the IUBAT Conference Hall. Dr Quamrul H Mazumder, Professor of Mechanical Engineering at University of Michigan-Flint, USA spoke on the occasion. Presided by Professor Dr M Alimullah Miyan, Vice-Chancellor, IUBAT, the event was attended by Chairs, Coordinators and Faculty members of different Colleges and Departments including researchers, policy makers, community leaders, social workers and professionals varied areas.


MOU signed between BFF and DIU

To promote science education and increase the number of enrollment of science students in secondary and higher secondary level, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for strategic partnership between Daffodil International University (DIU) and Bangladesh Freedom Foundation (BFF) was signed on September 2, 2012, at DIU conference room. Sazzad Rahman Chowdhury, Executive Director, Bangladesh Freedom Foundation and Syed Mizanur Rahman, Director (Student Affairs), DIU signed the MOU on behalf of their respective organisations.


Collaboration with Bangladesh in Higher Education sector

The Government of India wants to have a stronger collaboration with the higher educational insitutions especially public and private universities of Bangladesh in the areas of science, technology and innovation. The interest was expressed by the Indian High Commissioner H E Pankaj Saran when he called on Professor Dr A K Azad Chowdhury, Chairman (State Minister), University Grants Commission of Bangladesh on September 4, 2012.

During the meeting they agreed to introduce exchange visit of Vice-Chancellors of both the public and private universities of the two countries and also to increase the number of fellowships, scholarships in Masters and PhD Programme for Bangladeshi students in Indian universities.


Workshop on Professional Efficiency at Presidency University

A training workshop on Professional Efficiency organised by the School of Business of Presidency University took place on August 30, 2012 at the Gulshan Campus of the University. The workshop was presided over by Professor Muhammad Mahboob Ali, PhD, Head, School of Business. The workshop was aimed mainly for the undergraduate students. It addressed issues like stress management, time management and customer relationship management in their job life. A total of 32 participants attended the workshop.


New Vice Chancellor at EUB

Professor Dr Md Abdul Mannan, a well known educationist in the South Pacific, joined as the Vice Chancellor of the European University of Bangladesh for a period of four years. The President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and the Chancellor of the University approved his appointment on August 27, 2012. Professor Mannan obtained BA (Honours) and MA in Economics from the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh and Master of Educational Administration with Honours and PhD from the University of New England, Australia. He also did a Post Graduate Degree in Agriculture Cooperative Economics from Bulgaria.


8th Henry Dunant Memorial Moot Court Competition

The national round of the 8th Henry Dunant Memorial Moot Court Competition on International Humanitarian Law (IHL) will take place at the Senate Bhaban of the University of Dhaka from September 13-15, 2012.About 20 teams comprising of law students from all over the country will take part in the competition, jointly organised by the Faculty of Law, DU and the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC). The winning team will qualify to the regional round of the competition to be held on October 12 this year. Budding lawyers from Afghanistan, India, Iran, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka would take part in it. The Regional winner would enter into the Asia Pacific round in Hong Kong in early 2013.
