14th Convocation of IUB

The 14th convocation of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) was held on September 20, 2012 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka. The President of People's Republic of Bangladesh and Chancellor of the University, Md Zillur Rahman, presided over the convocation. Noted media personality Asaduzzaman Noor, MP, attended the programme as the convocation speaker.

Congratulating the new graduates, the President said, “You are now graduates and best resources of the nation. Remember that, you have reached this stage due to the efforts of your family, society and the country. Now, the time has come for you to repay the debt to your society and country.” He called upon the university authorities to ensure quality and emphasised on research so that education does not become certificate oriented.

A record number of 934 students attended the convocation, 572 of whom are undergraduates and 362 graduates, from various programmes of the university. A total number of 63 students out of which 61 undergraduates and 2 graduates, have earned academic honours. Four of them, two each from the undergraduate and graduate classes, received the Chancellor's Award (Gold Medal) for completing their programmes with a perfect CGPA of 4.0 out of 4.0. They are Raisa Rasheeka, Rafid Haider, Mohammed Saiful Islam and S M Saiful Islam.

Asaduzzaman Noor, MP, recalled his early life memories and shared it with the new graduates. He stated that the students should read a lot, study history and have a focus in life. Congratulating the new graduates, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor M Omar Rahman, convened the graduates to become leaders, not followers. Among others, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, IUB, Towhid Samad also spoke at the occasion.
