Telco Welfare 2012 at EWU

With the motto 'Fight for honour, win the battle of knowledge, be the first Telechamp,' East West University Telecommunications Club (EWUTC) organised its first national event-- Telco Welfare 2012. Students from 23 universities and around 20 colleges took part in this two day long event held at Aftab Nagar campus of EWU on September 13-14, 2012. Professor Dr Ahmed Shafee, Vice Chancellor, EWU, inaugurated the event on the first day.


Conference on Mechatronics Engineering Education at WUB

World University of Bangladesh (WUB) organised a conference on Mechatronics Engineering Education in its own auditorium on September 9, 2012. Professor Dr Abdul Mannan Choudhury, Vice-Chancellor, WUB, chaired the conference. The theme paper was presented by Dr Shafiqul Islam, Advisor, Mechatronics Engineering Department. Professor Dr M Nurul Islam, Vice Chancellor, Maulana Bhasani Science and Technology University, and Morsheda Choudhury, Treasurer, WUB, were present as special guests. The discussion was focused on defining and explaining 'Mechatronics Engineering' and its significance as a field of study.


PU Delegates visit the President

A four-member delegate on behalf of Prime University paid a courtesy visit to Md Zillur Rahman, President, People's Republic of Bangladesh and Chancellor, Prime University on September 10, 2012. The members of the delegate were Sajjatuz Jumma, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Md Ashraf Ali, Vice Chairman, Board of Trustees, Mir Shahabuddin, Secretary General, Board of Trustees and Professor Dr Profulla Chandra Sarker, Vice Chancellor, Prime University. During discussion the President emphasised on maintaining standard of higher education. He advised the authority of Prime University to introduce world class syllabuses so that the students can compete in international job market.


Banglalink's Idea Generation Contest, Grandmaster

Banglalink is back for the second year of Grandmaster, an idea generation contest for university students, as announced at a press conference held on September 26, 2012. The interested students will form groups to register and submit their ideas through Banglalink's facebook fan page, “banglalink mela”.

Entries will be open from September 27 to October 18, 2012. The champion team will receive BDT 200,000.00 and 1st Runners Up and 2nd Runners Up will receive BDT 150,000.00 and BDT 100,000.00 respectively. This year, the project theme is “mobile internet based services through mobile applications”. Present at the press conference were Professor Dr Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Dean, School of Business, North South University, and Shihab Ahmad, Senior Director, Marketing, Banglalink.


Admission Fair at Green University

Green University of Bangladesh organised an admission fair, Fall-2012, from September 14-19. Professor Dr Quazi Deen Mohd Khosru, Vice-Chancellor (Acting) of Green University inaugurated the fair. During the fair, candidates were given 50 percent waiver on admission fee, free books and up to 100 percent waiver on tuition fees on the basis of their results of SSC and HSC.


Indoor Games Competition at MBSTU

Students of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University arranged an Intra Department Indoor Games Competition from September 10-17, 2012. The students of Criminology and Police Science department organised the event which included indoor games, like chess, card, carom, table tennis, and memory games. The faculty members and students participated in the event.
ORIENTATION PROGRAMME
 

North South University (NSU)

The orientation ceremony of Fall Semester-2012 for the newly enrolled undergraduate students of North South University (NSU) was held on September 15, 2012, at its own campus in Bashundhara. M A Kashem, Member of Board of Trustees and former Chairman, Board of Governor, NSU, was present as the chief guest. Dr Hafiz G A Siddiqi, Vice Chancellor, NSU, chaired the ceremony while the Heads of respective departments, students and guardians were present.

Northern University Bangladesh (NUB)

An orientation ceremony of MBA programme of Fall Semester, 2012, of NUB was held on September 14 at its Rajshahi Campus. Professor Dr M Amjad Hossain, Advisor, Department of Business Administration, and Md Ashraful Islam, Deputy Registrar and Administrative Coordinator were present as special guests. Professor Dr M Amjad Hossain said, “Northern University Bangladesh has been providing quality education from its inception with highly qualified faculty members.” At the end of the ceremony Md Rashedul Islam, Senior Admin Officer described the different academic rules and regulations to the students.

 


National Earth Olympiad 2012

Bangladesh Youth Environmental Initiative organised an environmental and earth sciences Olympiad under the name of National Earth Olympiad, 2012, for the first time in Bangladesh. The final round of the Olympiad and award giving ceremony was held on September 15, 2012, at International School Dhaka. Around 200 high school students of classes VIII to XII from fifty different schools and colleges of Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna and Sylhet took part in this national competition. Earlier, around 1800 students took part in the first round of the competition.

Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh, Svend Olling addressed the ceremony as the chief guest while Dr Nasreen Ahmad, Pro-Vice Chancellor, University of Dhaka (DU), inaugurated the day-long event. The special guests were Kazi Matin Ahmed, Professor of Geology, DU, and Afia Akhtar, President of International Association of Geoscientist for International Development.
