Conference on 'Influence of Shakespeare' at NSU

A two day long conference on ‘English and Interdisciplinary: The Influence of Shakespeare’ was inaugurated at NSU Open Theater Hall on December 14, 2012 organised by the Department of English of North South University (NSU). The conference brought together scholars of English Literature from 10 universities of Bangladesh.

Dr Md Abdus Sattar, Vice Chancellor (Acting), NSU attended the inaugural session as the chief guest while Dr Khaliquzzaman Elias chaired the session. Dr Serajul Islam Choudhury, Professor Emeritus of the Department of English, University of Dhaka delivered a keynote speech on the influence of Shakespeare on Bengali literature. Dr Shireen Huq, Chairman, Department of English, North South University and Dr Selim Sarwar also took part in the conference.


Indoor Games Competition at BUFT

The Indoor Games Competition- 2012 organised by the Games and Sports Committee of BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT) was inaugurated on December 31, 2012 at BUFT Campus, Uttara, Dhaka.

The tournament was inaugurated by Professor Dr Syed Masud Husain, Vice-Chancellor, BUFT. Students from different batches of BUFT took part in Carom Board, Table Tennis and Chess Board competitions. Professor Dr Engr Ayub Nabi Khan, Pro Vice-Chancellor and ANM Rafiqul Alam, Registrar of BUFT, were present at the tournament.


Seminar on '21st Century Colonisation' held in BRAC University

A favourite theme in international debate nowadays is whether Asia's rise signifies the West's decline. Some even say this will be the Asian Century. Keeping this in mind, BRAC University Marketing Association (BUMA), on December 24, 2012 organised a seminar titled '21st Century Colonisation: How Asia is Taking Over the West,' meant to inform the students about how Asian culture and values are gradually spreading throughout the world via social media and other mass communication media. Toffael Rashid, Planning Director, Asia Pacific of Leo Burnett, and Asif Iqbal, Executive Director Marketing of Meghna Group of Industries, were the keynote speaker and special guest respectively. The seminar was chaired by Dr Md Tareque Aziz, Assistant Professor, BRAC Business School and Programme Manager, Center for Business Excellence.


Quazi Azher Ali Memorial Gold Medal 2012

Renowned pediatrics Dr M R Khan and Anjuman Mufidul Islam have been awarded Quazi Azher Ali Memorial Gold Medal 2012. Quazi Azher Ali foundation staged the gold medal awarding programme on December 29, 2012 at Bangladesh University (BU) Auditorium, Mohammadpur, Dhaka. Secretary in-charge of Planning Division, Bhuayan Shafiqul Islam attended the programme as chief guest while Quazi Jamil Azher, Chairman, Quazi Azher Ali Foundation and President, Board of Trustees, BU was in the chair.


Digital Library Services launched at EU

Automated and Digital Library Services through KOHA and Greenstone Digital Library Software was launched at the Eastern University Library on December 30, 2012. Professor Dr S M Zabed Ahemd, Chairman, Department of Information Science and Library Management, University of Dhaka, was present as the chief guest and Dilara Begum, Country Coordinator, Digital Library Network South Asia (DLNETSA), President (Acting), Library Association of Bangladesh (LAB) and Librarian (Head of the Library), East West University, was present as the special guest.

Seminar Organised by IBAIS University

Recently IBAIS University arranged a seminar on 'Career Opportunities and Challenges in Human Resource Management: Its current scenario and future prospect.' The initiative was taken by some students under the guidance of Farhana Zamil and Mostofa Khalid, faculty members of Department of Business Administration, IBAISU. Md Shariful Islam Mridha, FAVP, HR Department of BRAC Ltd was the keynote speaker.


Reuniion at JU

The first reunion of 'Economics 91,' a group of former students of Jagannath University, Batch 88-89 was held on December 21, 2012 at Ramna, Dhaka. About 120 participants joined the reunion including the former Professors of Economics of JU Selina Begum, Mahmudul Hassan, Lutfor Rahman and Dr Azizur Rahman. All of them addressed the audience.


Admission Fair at SUB

State University of Bangladesh (SUB) organised a three day long 'Admission Fair' for Spring'13 semester from December 28-30, 2012 at its main campus. It was inaugurated by Professor Dr Iftekhar Ghani Chowdhury, Vice Chancellor, SUB. Special waiver on tuition fees was given on spot admission.


10th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of UAP Foundation held

Annual General Meeting (AGM) of University of Asia Pacific Foundation was held on December 15, 2012 at Hotel Lake Shore, Gulshan. On this occasion, Office Bearers of UAP Foundation, Abdul Mohin Chowdhury (Acting Chairperson), Tasneem Siraj Mahboob, Alhaj Malek Mollah and all members of Board of Trustees were present. The meeting was presided over by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Jamilur Reza Choudhury.
