Woman Rising A Photo Feature by Anisur Rahman Women in our country fight every day against the odds -- of poverty, discrimination and outright violence. Yet they continue their struggle to survive. Low wages, poor working conditions and lack of social security characterise the work environment for most women, but it does not stop them from waking up every morning and embracing the challenges -- and successes -- of another day. Women have been the majority work force of a garment industry that, in the last 25 years, has become our key export division and a main source of foreign exchange. At present, the country generates about $5 billion worth of products each year by exporting garments. There are more than 4,500 garment factories across Bangladesh employing more than 3.5 million people; about 90% of them are women. Anisur Rahman is Deputy Chief Photographer, The Daily Star.
