Flashback

Narayanganj An area in stagnant water

Almost three weeks after the heavy rainfall, 15000 people are still struggling to live a normal life while stranded in water. The most dreadful fact is that nobody ever came to alleviate their misery.

Dark brown water was everywhere; the stench was horrendous. With thousands of shanties still under water in the area that is braced by the DND embankment, hundreds of people fell sick, many had to live on the street, as rooms were at a premium in the courthouse and schools where more than 1500 people took shelter.

Corinna, a 24-year-old photography student of Germany went visiting this area and she was shocked at the sight of the sufferings of the stranded thousands. She was even more shocked when she realised the fact that not a single organization came to the rescue. Some of the local people chipped in to provide them with saline and medicament, other than that they were alone to fight the situation without the NGOs lifting a finger and the government providing any aid.
