A Festival of Colours

It begins with the meticulous adorning of Durga giving attention to the minutest detail. The Durga Puja is the most important religious festival for Bengali Hindus. It is a time for dressing up and taking part with equal zeal the solemn rites and the celebrations. During the ten-day puja, Dhaka's Hindu temples and surrounding areas are ablaze with colour and vibrancy. This year's festivities have been on a grand-scale with ornate 'torons' (entrance gates), lively melas and the final ceremonial 'bishorjon' or immersion of the deity.
