The Niko

The recent explosion in Tengratila gas field is the devastating conclusion of a sad saga of political favour undermining public interest. In spite of being rejected by expert  evaluations on both technical and financial grounds, a small Canadian company Niko Resources wangled a huge gas exploration deal with the help of a former BNP minister.
The price of these underhand dealings took the form of two blowouts in the same year, leaving thousands of people homeless and costing the country millions of taka in the loss of their valuable resources.
