We think in our mother tongue; it is the language in which our creativity develops. But with so many, often contradictory, cultural influences on us -- from informal language used in the media to a general arrogance about not knowing Bangla or not finding it useful enough -- the proper learning of even the mother tongue cannot be taken for granted.
