We
are extremely pleased to announce the Bangladesh
Business Awards 2004. With the motto of
"Bringing Global Corporate Standards
to Bangladesh" this award has successfully
completed its fifth year of journey. Introduced
by DHL Worldwide Express and The Daily Star
in 2000, the award now comprises four categories
-- Business Person of the Year, Outstanding
Woman in Business, Enterprise of the Year
and Joint Venture Enterprise of the Year.
This year, we are also giving away a Special
Achievement Award.
We believe in having a modern, competitive
and efficient private sector to ensure sustainable
growth of our economy. To achieve this growth,
the country needs to have entrepreneurs
with vision, courage and leadership skill
to break new grounds. But to have such entrepreneurs,
we need to create the appropriate environment
in which such talents can flourish. That
precisely is the aim of our Business Awards.
The story of Bangladesh's private sector
growth is a relatively recent one.
We
have leaders in our private sectors whose
exceptional qualities of entrepreneurship
and vision need to be highlighted and acknowledged
through due honour. Recognition of these
exceptional personalities and enterprises
would establish the fact that, despite all
the problems that we encounter, our business
leaders can still achieve laurels if they
have the courage, the determination and,
of course, the vision to do so. We take
this opportunity to express our grateful
thanks to our distinguished panel of jurors
whose names are listed below. DHL Worldwide
Express and The Daily Star are extremely
privileged to be able to honour these exceptional
leaders and enterprises of our business
community.
