Keeping turns free crucial to ease jam Star report Making a turn on Dhaka streets is a nightmare. But a little enthusiasm in traffic police can ease the problem. It is seen that at a left turn junction, vehicles going straight block the slow lane when the signal turns red; for instance the Sonargaon intersection. The similar thing happens at the right turnings. As a result, traffic congestion intensifies unnecessarily. Active enforcement of rules by police can solve it. There should be clear marking on roads indicating how much of it can be occupied by a vehicle intending to make a turn. Anybody going beyond the line should be penalised.
