First meeting of newly formed syndicate of DIU

Under the Purview of Private University Act-2010, the 1st meeting of newly formed syndicate of Daffodil International University was held on January 6, 2011. The meeting was presided over by the chairman of the syndicate and Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University. The meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. M. M. Shahidul Hassan, Dept. of EEE, BUET who was nominated by University Grants Commission (UGC).

Chairman D. Sabur Khan and other members of the syndicate like, Professor Dr. Lutfar Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Science and ICT, Professor M. Shahjahan Mina, Adviser, Faculty of Business and Economics, Professor Dr. Shusil Kumar Das, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Science, Professor Dr. Mizanur Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Business and Economics, Professor S.M. Mahabub Ul Haque Majumder, Controller of Examination, Dr. Md. Fokhray Hossain, Registrar, Daffodil International University, Professor Dr. Mokarram Hossain, Faculty of Business and Economics, Mominul Haque Majumder, Director (Finance and Accounts), Emran Hossain, Member Board of Governors, Md. Khurshed Alam, Member Board of Governors attended the meeting.


Workshop on meditation held at NUB

A workshop on meditation was held at Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) on January 8, arranged by volunteer organisation 'Manush' and 'Shohoj Yoga Bangladesh'. Prof. Dr. M Shamsul Haque, Vice-chancellor, NUB was present as the chief guest in the workshop.

Ashok Kumar Sing, Country Head of Swish Singapore Bangladesh and country representative of Shohoj Yoga taught meditation to the participants. More than 50 students and officers of NUB participated in the workshop. Among others, Prof. Dr. Md. Nurul Islam, Registrar, NUB and Md. Saiful Alam Bhuiyan, Deputy Registrar, NUB were present at the workshop.

 


Warm clothes distribution programme

With this slogan, the UNYSABians from IUB Chittagong Chapter, planned to organise warm clothes collection and distribution programme for the year 2010 on the night of January 2, 2011. Following an initial plan, the formal notice for clothes collection was given on November 25 and the collection went on till December 15. The Bakolia High School, Chittagong authority provided the UNYSABians with the venue and a total of 1360 clothes were distributed including 110 brand-new blankets. For their huge success, the volunteers earnestly thanked and appreciated all the IUBians. With all these positive motivations, the UNYSAB, IUB Chittagong Chapter hopes to come up with bigger events very soon.

 


The Launching Ceremony and Training Programme at BAC University Library

Brac University Ayesha Abed Library has conducted a two-day training programme on next- generation open source discovery tool VuFind on January 5-6, 2011. A total of 45 library professionals from 35 public and private universities, and research institutes participated in the training. Vice Chancellor of BRAC University Professor Ainun Nishat inaugurated the newly established discovery tool VuFind.

BRAC University Library has successfully completed this discovery tool project with financial support from INASP, UK. The Open Source Discovery Tool VuFind enables BRAC University library to offer access and discover all of BRACU Resources (catalogue records, digital library items, institutional repository, databases, and e-journals) in one single search-and-browse system in a robust, and distributed digital environment.

The ceremony started with a welcome address by Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Registrar of BRAC University. The chief guest of the Inauguration Ceremony Professor Ainun Nishat, Vice Chancellor, BRAC University praised the initiatives taken by the BRAC University library.

Hasina Afroz, Senior Deputy Librarian and Project Director of ILS (KOHA), Institutional Repository (DSpace) and Discovery Tool Vufind made a presentation on 'BRAC University: Building a 21st Century Library'. Dr. M A Mazed, Director and Country Coordinator, INASP and Dr. S.M. Zabed Ahmed, Professor, Information Science and Library Management, Dhaka University was present as special guest in the ceremony. Dr Mumit Khan, Professor of Computer Science and Engineering Department and Project Adviser conducted this two-day training programme. The inauguration ceremony was concluded with a vote of thanks by the Head of library.
