The New Corporate Culture:
Climate Change and Sustainable development

On February 23 American University of Bangladesh (AIUB) held a day long seminar titled “The New Corporate Culture: Climate Change and Sustainable development” organised by the Department of Marketing and Faculty of Business Administration.

The opening speech was delivered by Dr. Charles C. Villanueva, (Dean FBA, AIUB). Other guests in the event included CEGIS (Center for Environment and Geographical Information System)-Dr. Ahmedul Hasan (Director) who discussed about Risk Management, Climate Change and New Business Model, followed by Md Ariful Alam, Deputy General Manager, Climate Project Technology Division, Grameen Phone. The session was concluded by a discussion with Haris Mohammed from BBC Janala on the issues regarding going green.

Other speakers in the seminar highlighted events in detail regarding climate change and its consequences towards government laws and policies, international policy towards 'Go Green' and other concepts were also discussed in detail using slideshow presentations. Rashed Chowdhury, Head of Marketing Department, Dr. Ehsanul Huda (Director BBA/MBA), Azad Ashraf, (Marketing Dept.), Taseen Chowdhury (Finance Department) and Mahbub of Operation Management were present at the seminary.


Celebrating Amor Ekushey in MBSTU

The students of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) celebrated the International Mother Language Day on February 20-22, 2011. They commemorated this day to pay respect to the language martyrs of 1952. The function was divided into two segments. On February 21, a cultural function, book fair and blood donation programme was organised. These segments were inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor of the university Prof. Dr. M Nurul Islam. The most active cultural club Chetona, techno cultural club Dhrubotara and Red Crescent were the organisers of these events.


Ekushey Boi Mela at BRAC University

Global Affairs Forum of BRAC University (GAFBU) organised Ekushey Boi Mela (Book Fair) titled “Jagoron” at its campus to mark the International Mother Language Day.

Professor Md. Golam Samdani Fakir, Pro-Vice Chancellor, BRAC University formally inaugurated the daylong fair and visited different book stalls. Noted writer Ahsan Habib was the special guest in the opening ceremony.

A total of 12 book stalls of various publications including Adorn Publication, Unmad Publication, Drubopod, Shahos publication, Muktochinta publication, Mizan Publication and Kotha Publication took part in the fair.

Students, faculty members and officials of the university also attended the book fair.


Language and Literature Teaching Conference

Department of English of Stamford University Bangladesh organised a day-long conference on "Language and Literature Teaching: Exploring Opportunities and Facing the Challenges" at Siddeswari campus.

Fatinaaz Feroz, member, Board of Trustees of Stamford University, inaugurated the conference. Prof Dr. Majibur Rahman, vice-chancellor of the university spoke as the guest of honour. Professor Dr Syed Manzoorul Islam of Dhaka University delivered the keynote speech emphasising the need for incorporating ethics and creativity in teaching.

Academics and alumnus from BRAC University, East West University, Daffodil International University, Gono Bishshobiddalaya, Premier University of Chittagong, Stamford University, University of Liberal Arts, United International University and King Khaled University of KSA presented 17 papers on teaching English language and literature at different levels in Bangladesh.

Convenor of the conference Assistant Prof Tahsin Yasmin gave the vote of thanks to all participants, organisers and volunteers for their cooperation.


International Conference at IUB

The 2nd International Conference on Computer Processing of Bangla, 2011 (ICCPB-2011) was held on February 19 at IUB's campus at Bashundhara, Dhaka. IUB and Bangladesh Computer Council jointly organised the conference. State Minister of Science and Information and Communication Technology, Government of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh, Architect Yeafesh Osman, MP, attended the programme as chief guest. Professor Nazrul Islam, Chairman, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh was present as special guest. Saifur Rahman, Chairman, IUB Trust and Professor M Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor (In-Charge), IUB, also spoke on the occasion.

The conference on computer processing of Bangla is the continuation of paying tribute to the language martyrs and for sharing the recent knowledge gathered by research and development works of the researchers from around the globe. A total of 19 researchers from Bangladesh, India, Korea, Japan and USA presented their papers to this conference.

Professor Ajoy Kumar Ray, Vice Chancellor, Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpur, India and Professor Bidyut Baran Chaudhuri, Head of the Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Unit of Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, India presented the keynote papers.

Among other Md Mahfuzur Rahman, Additional Secretary and Executive Director, Bangladesh Computer Council, Prof Mohammed Anwer, Director, School of Engineering and Computer Science, IUB and Chair, International Programme Committee, ICCPB 2011 spoke on the occasion.

Introductory address, vote of thanks and concluding remarks was delivered by Dr M Abdus Sobhan, Professor, School of Engineering and Computer Science, IUB and Chair, Organizing Committee, ICCPB 2011.


ULAB celebrates International Mother Language Day

The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh organised a programme on International Mother Language Day on February 21, 2011 at its own auditorium. Professor Pabitra Sarker, former Vice Chancellor of Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata was the chief guest. Professor Rafiqul Islam, Vice Chancellor of ULAB was also present at the occasion.

The event included recitation of poetry by the students, a multimedia theatre production by ULAB Media Club as well as Bangla and Chakma songs by ULAB Sangskriti Sangsad.
