Independence Day Celebration

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh

In observance of 40 years of Independence ULAB organised a programme to celebrate Independence and National Day on March 22 in its auditorium. Professor Abdul Mannan of ULAB School of Business was the keynote speaker. Other speakers were ULAB Professor Emeritus Rafiqul Islam and Acting Vice Chancellor Professor Imran Rahman, Kazi Shahid Ahmed, President, ULAB Board of Trustees. He unveiled a student wall magazine named "Swadhinata," which was filled with poems, short stories, and short articles written by the students based on the theme of independence.

The programme ended with a stage drama titled “Bornochora” written by Professor Momtaz Uddin Ahmed, performed by Theater ULAB. ULAB Media Club provided decorations for the whole programme.

Northern University Bangladesh

Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) arranged an 'Intra-Department Cricket Tournament' on the occasion of Independence Day and National Day 2012 on March 25 at the sporting ground at Banani. Professor M Shamsul Haque, Vice-Chancellor, NUB inaugurated the tournament as the chief guest.

He said that Cricket is currently the most popular game of Bangladesh, the recent Asia Cup Cricket Tournament proved it again. He called upon the students to play cricket besides study for overall development of mind and body.

Bangladesh Agricultural University

Marking the Independence Day, a week long photography exhibition began at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) on March 25. Professor Md Rafiqul Hoque, Vice-Chancellor, BAU inaugurated the exhibition titled 'Liberation War in 1971: BAU' as chief guest. Public Relations and Publications Office of the BAU organised the event in the university central library corridor

A total of 70 photographs shot during the liberation war from BAU campus and its adjoining areas were displayed at the exhibition. The photographs were mostly taken by internationally acclaimed photographer, late Naib Uddin Ahmed.


CSE Fiesta 2012 Held

The three day long BUBT (Bangladesh University of Business and Technology) CSE FIESTA-2012, organised by the Department of CSE, BUBT, took place from February 23-25. Architect Yeafesh Osman, State Minister, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, inaugurated the occasion as the chief guest. Professor M Kaykobad, Chairman, Department of CSE, BUET, Professor M A Mottalib, Head, Department of CSE, IUT were the special guests. Professor Md Abu Saleh, Vice-Chancellor, BUBT, presided over the function.

Inter college and university Math Olympiad was held on February 24. More than 19 colleges and 15 universities participated in the competetion. More than 76 teams from 32 different universities participated in the programming contest.


'Biotechnology: Vision 2021' at MBSTU

A day-long Biotech Awareness Festival was held on March 13 at Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) at Santosh of Tangail in collaboration with National Institute of Biotechnology (NIB), Ganakbari, Savar, Dhaka and Department of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineeerig (BGE), MBSTU. The theme of this festival was “Biotechnology: Vision 2021”.

The programme included a colourful procession from the MBSTU campus to Tangail town. A 'Regional Biotechnology Olympiad' was held where all of the colleges of Tangail participated. A seminar and discussion session on “Biotechnology: Vision 2021” was held at the Darbar Hall of MBSTU.

Vice-chancellor M Nurul Islam of MBSTU attended and spoke at the discussion as the chief guest while Chairman Md Imam Hossain of BGE Department of MBSTU presided the event.


Seminar on Literature held at DIU

A seminar on “Modernism in English and Bangla Literature” was held at the auditorium of Daffodil International University (DIU) on March 24. Renowned poet of contemporary Bangla literature and Professor of English from Dhaka University, Dr Khondakar Ashraf Hossain, delivered keynote speech. He stated that modernism in literature is the representation of a world full of frustrations and fragmentations--a consequence of the restlessness and uncertainty arising from World War in the early 20th century. Professror Mustafizur Rahman of Rajshahi University and Professor Shafi Ahmed of Jahangirnagar University took part in the discussion.


Public Speaking Competition held at IUBAT

A public speaking competition was organised by the Debating Forum of International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) at the Conference Hall of the university. “We have achieved Independence but not Freedom” speaking on this topic, the speakers expressed critical views about the on-going political scenario of the country. The programme was arranged marking the 41st Independence Day of Bangladesh. Students of different colleges and departments of the university took part in the competition.

Professor M Alimullah Miyan, Vice-Chancellor, IUBAT attended the function as chief guest. He focused on qualitative difference between independence and freedom.


Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah Memorial Lecture held at AUST

Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah Memorial Lecture was arranged by Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) on March 25. Professor A M M Safiullah, Vice-Chancellor of AUST presided over the session. Professor M H Khan, Founder Vice-Chancellor, AUST, Ex-Vice-Chancellor, BUET and former member, UGC delivered the lecture on “Private Universities in BangladeshAn Overview”. Professor M H Khan gave a glance on life of Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah. Kazi Rafiqul Alam, Chairman, AUST Board of Trustees graced the occasion as Guest of Honour.
