Glory all the way

Masnoon Salehin

A common saying of Management states, “Manage Men Tactfully”. That tactics or strategy is must to outplay the opponent and to achieve the desired goal. “Management Cricket” team from “Department of Management Studies, University of Dhaka” was well managed to rightly judge the saying and glorify it with the “Champs” title!

April 25, 2012 was just another working day for most people after a series of strikes throughout the country, but it was quite different for all of the students, ex-students, teachers, staffs and well wishers of 'Management (MGT) Cricket” team of Management Studies Department. After 22 years, the cricket team of the department played at the final of “Dhaka University Inter Department Cricket Tournament 2012”.

Losing the toss, the captain of MGT Cricket was invited to bat first by the other finalist team from the Department of Islamic Studies. “Islamic Studies Cricket” team was good at fielding. “MGT Cricket” was scored 108 runs in 20 overs. Islamic Studies staged an incredible performance with their fascinating fielding.

The score of MGT Cricket might not have been very impressive or daunting, but the hopes of the supporters soared high. The game became quite intense and unpredictable after a while. Bowler Tasamul Hoque led the way for MGT Cricket to defeat the Islamic Studies cricket team.

Islamic Studies required 10 runs from 1 ball, so by then the management fans started cheering for victory . After the last ball was pitched, the crowd erupted with excitement as their wait for the trophy finally ended. Honourable Chairman of Department of Management Studies Dr Shyam Sundor Karmaker was present in the field. He was ecstatic to be a part of the reception ceremony and victory rally after a remarkable journey by “MGT Cricket,” who beat five teams in the tournament to achieve the honour of distinction.

Honourable Vice-Chancellor of University of Dhaka awarded the medals, runners up trophy and champion trophy. He spoke on the significance of sports in academic institutions along with regular curriculum. Tasamul Hoque was announced man of the match for his superb bowling and extra ordinary three run outs.

The two and half months of journey came to an end with the championship. The team displayed exceptional management skills and team performance, by being well planned, properly organised and strategically advanced.
