The Benefits of Bicycling

I like to ride bicycles from a very young age. Cycling is one of the best forms of physical exercise. In every developed country, cycling is a popular mode of transport. However, for some reason cycling has not got its due attention in our country. It is also good for the environment as cycling does not involve any carbon emission. Cycling also boosts our stamina and increases the blood circulation in our body. Bicycles can be a very good mode of alternative transport that can effectively reduce the traffic jams on streets. People should cycle to their office or educational institutions. It'd be also cost effective for our students. I believe, by riding bicycles more and more, we can create a movement, and can make our city a cleaner and better one.

The High Tea of TSC

Last week's Campus Edibles titled 'The beau-tea of TSC' was a timely one. As the winter is creeping in, nothing but a cup of hot tea can make students tick. And as put in the article, it is indeed true that in TSC, no tea is just tea. One will find a variety of tea in TSC starting from ever famous Maltova tea to the sophisticated aroma tea. The best part is that it costs a student only a few bucks to have a cup of these delicious teas. Though I am not a student of Dhaka University, I go to the TSC almost on a regular basis to hang out with my friends in a wonderful environment that TSC provides and to enjoy the high tea of TSC.

The Crime of Bullying

Thanks Saad Adnan Khan, for his wonderful article titled 'Bullying is Not Cool' published in the last issue of Star Campus. No matter how mildly the society sees it, bullying is never cool. It is a crime which might even involve sexual harassment. I got picked on a lot by my classmates in school for being a skinny and pimply kid. Apparently, for them, I was not manly enough to be a boy. The experience of being bullied in educational institutions or in work places may leave harmful effects on a person's mind. Sometimes, acts of serious bullying or nasty pranks can traumatise a person for ever. Bullying, in no sense, is a foreign problem, and students who are getting bullied in our schools, need proper attention and counselling.

The Spirit of Eid–ul-Azha

The festival of Eid-ul-Azha involves the lessons of piety and self sacrifice. Every year, Muslims across the world sacrifice millions of cattle on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha. Though people are supposed to distribute a portion of the meat of their sacrificed animal among the underprivileged people of the society, many people do not perform this duty, which spoils the very objective of this sacred festival. This year, I came across a shabby looking boy who didn't get to eat any meat even on the day of Eid-ul-Azha. Seeing that the child hurt, I got him some beef curries from my home. There is so much to learn from this event. Though, we have made the Eid-ul-Azha, an occasion for mindless fun, only if we share our joy with the less privileged people of the society, we will be living the spirit of Eid-ul-Azha, in a true sense.
