A Better Future

The other day I came across a shabby looking girl at Gabtoli Bus Stand, Dhaka. She was begging for alms from passers by. I felt very sorry for the poor child and asked her how much she earns a day from begging. What she replied was very shocking. She told me that with her income she can hardly have two meals a day and she also has to give a portion of her daily income to a 'powerful beggars' syndicate' who extorts money from young beggars. I became speechless out of shame after knowing her story. This was possibly the worst case scenario of child abuse in our society. We shouldn't stay inactive anymore and make an effort to provide these underprivileged kids with a better future.

For a Greener Future

Though Bangladesh was once known for its beautiful greenery, nowadays, most of the prominent forests of our country are at a stake. Over the last few decades, Bangladesh has lost most of its rural forests mostly because people destroyed forests to create space for habitation and agricultural land. Know as our nation's pride, the flora and fauna of Sundarbans are also suffering constant threats from illegal poachers and tree encroachers. Needles to say, we can't let such destruction continue. Forests are our lifeline as they provide us with valuable oxygen, and livelihood of a lot of people actually depends on them. It is high time we become conscious to protect our natural forestlands and ensure our next generation a greener future.

To Stay Chic!

Thanks to Star Campus for publishing Campus Trends in a regular basis. Last week's Campus Trends on mufflers was a superb one. What makes mufflers so special is that they not only add to a person's attire but are also a great way to keep warm during cold winter days. For me, the Campus Trends section has been great help to stay chic throughout the year. Plus, it also lets us; the students, know where to get trendy clothes and accessories from at an economical rate. These articles have helped me create my own fashion statement and change my previous persona as a fashion disaster. I look forward to getting a superb Spotlight on Winter Fashion in near future.

Empowering Women

For a long time, the women in Bangladesh have been suffering from sexual harassment on streets, popularly known as ‘eve teasing’. Especially working women and female students are the worst victims of this social crime. The government has taken some measures to prevent it, but it seems the society is yet to recognise the severity of such crimes. It is very unfortunate that girls who fall victim to sexual harassment are even committing suicide. I believe, it is high time that we learn that it is not the victims but the criminals who should be ashamed of their deeds. It needs a concentrated effort by both the government and the general public to wipe out this menace from our society.
