Internship Integration Day Fall 2012

BRAC Business School (BBS) of BRAC University held 'Internship Integration Day' (IID), on November 24, 2012 with the aim to engage corporate executives with the recruited interns to achieve a comprehensive in-depth value from the internship process.

Atikul Islam, Director of Islam Group, Shujaat Ali, Country Head of Target in Bangladesh, Mosabbir Chowdhury, HR Head of Avery Denison, Mehedi Mahbub, Consultant to Chairman of Youngman Corporation in Bangladesh, Lieutenant Colonel Hasan Mahmud, Executive Director of Bitopi Group and A Gaffur, Executive Director, American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh were the speakers.


Remembering Sunil Gangopadhyay at Central Women's University

Central Women's University (CWU) organised an event, in association with Sunil Porishad, Bengal Zentrum (Berlin, Germany), on November 13, 2012 at the university premise attended by both instructors and students to remember Sunil Gangopadhyay, one of the greatest Bengali writers, who passed away on October 23, 2012.

Upon talking about Sunil's Bangladeshi origin and emergence as a writer, M Shakhaowat Hossain, Lecturer at the Department of English, CWU, emphasised on how Sunil transcended his body through his own creation. Sunil has made a permanent space in the hearts of readers through his vast contribution.


EIA Orientation and Training Workshop for Government Education Officers for secondary schools held

On November 17, 2012, an orientation workshop for Government Education Officers for secondary schools was organised by English in Action, a large-scale UK Government funded project in Bangladesh working on developing teachers' knowledge and skills to teach English to primary and secondary school children.

The aim of the workshop was to provide orientation for education officers from divisional, district and upazila level, as well as academic advisors and TTC principles. Pieter Feenstra, Team Leader, English in Action, in his opening speech welcomed and thanked the Secretary of Ministry of Education, Director of Development, Open University, UK, and the workshop participants. Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, Secretary, Government of Bangladesh chaired the programme.

A freshers' reception of Business School of Presidency University of Fall semester 2012 was held on November 13, 2012 at Aman Conference Hall. The programme was presided over by Professor Muhammad Mahboob Ali, PhD while the chief guest was Moazzam Hossain, Chairperson, Presidency University Foundation and the special guest was M Amanullah, Member, Presidency University Foundation.


Green University Alumni Reunion held

Alumni Reunion 2012 was held among the former students of Green University of Bangladesh on November 23, 2012 at the university campus. Professor Dr Quazi Deen Mohd Khosru, Vice-Chancellor (Acting) presided over the programme at the GUB Auditorium while Md Shahid Ullah, Treasurer of GUB and Major General (Retd) Kazi Ashfaq Ahmed, Registrar of GUB were present as the special guests.


Vikram Seth speaks at IUB

Renowned Indian Author and Poet Vikram Seth delivered a talk at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) on November 18, 2012. Professor Razia S Khan gave the introductory speech and welcomed everyone. Among others, Towhid Samad, Chairman, Board of Trustees, IUB and Professor M Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, IUB, spoke on the occasion. They also presented the IUB Sash to the honourable speaker and announced him as the IUB's Scholar in Residence for the year 2012.

In his lecture, Vikram Seth mentioned that he is overwhelmed by the hospitality of the people of Bangladesh. He also mentioned that secularism is the essence of humanity. Later he recited from his writings and answered questions from the audience. Professor Niaz Zaman delivered the formal vote of thanks.


'Debate Festival Week 2012' at ASAUB

ASA University Central Debating Club (ASAUDC) inaugurated 'Debate Festival Week 2012' on November 18, 2012. The programme was followed by a performance by the band Casa Murilo from Norway. Professor Dr Dalem Chandra Barman, Vice Chancellor, ASA University Bangladesh (ASAUB) chaired the programme. Deans of faculties, Chairmen, Professor Md Muinuddin Khan, the former Vice Chancellor and Advisor of ASAUB, Mr Khalequzzaman, Registrar (In Charge) of ASAUB along with other high officials of ASAUB and students were present at the occasion.


The Duke of Edinburgh's Award at DU

On November 22, 2012 University of Dhaka hold an award ceremony of Duke of Edinburgh's Award. This year the award went to 13 students. A A M S Arefin Siddique, Vice-Chancellor, DU, chaired the ceremony. The ceremony was graced with the presence of Sayeeful Islam, Managing Director, Concorde Garments Group, Musa Ibrahim, first Bangladeshi to conquer Mount Everest, Professor Dr Shaheen Islam, Chairman, Department of Educational and Counselling, DEA Executive Committee Members--Professor Dr M Monjurul Karim, Kajal Debnath, Brig General Jalaluddin Md Akbar and Md Mojibur Rahman, Programme Manager of Duke of Edinburgh's Award Foundation, and all Student Counselors of University of Dhaka.


Photo Exhibition at UAP

The Photography Club of the Department of Pharmacy of University of Asia Pacific (UAP), organised an intra department photography exhibition titled 'The Expressions' on November 27, 2012. Professor Dr Jamilur Reza Choudhury, Vice-Chancellor, UAP inaugurated the exhibition. Students of different batches participated in the exhibition. Media Partner of the exhibition was Shomoy Television Ltd.
