The Procession of Light

Zahedul I khan

This year's Ekushey February was a time for renewal of vows. Hundreds and thousands of men, women and children stood solemnly before the great monument in downtown Dhaka to remember the martyrdom of those who laid down their lives to establish the rights of their mother tongue. As we celebrate Ekushey February once again, the country faces some pressing issues, such as establishing a country free from all kinds of exploitation, a nation based on the principles of democracy, nationalism and socialism. The blood of the martyrs shed on February 21st , 1952 shall not go in vain. The presence of brave new faces in this year's procession of light is a testimony to that.
