Campus Recruitment Programme

A day-long presentation and recruitment programme titled “Career as a Banker” by BRAC Bank was organised by the office of Career Guidance and Placement (CGP) of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), on June 22, 2011 at its permanent campus at Bashundhara, Dhaka.

The Managing Director and CEO of BRAC Bank, Syed Mahbubur Rahman delivered a presentation on the topic. Among others, the Vice Chancellor (In-Charge) of IUB Professor M Omar Rahman, Director, School of Engineering and Computer Science, IUB, Prof M Anwer, Consultant, CGP, Mizanur Rahman also spoke on the occasion.

The interview for the recruitment was conducted by Tahniyat A Karim, Head of HR, Md Rezaul Amin, Head of Recruitment and Zeeshan Kingshuk Huq, Head of Corporate Affairs, BRAC Bank Ltd.

A good number of students and job-seekers attended the programme. Around 52 applicants submitted their Curriculum Vitae and 40 students were interviewed for the recruitment.

Training Course on PR and Communication

The concluding and certificate awarding ceremony of a two week long training course on 'Modern Technique of Public Relations and Communication' organised by Bangladesh Institute of Journalism and Electronic Media (BIJEM) was held on June 19, at the conference room of the institute. Hedayetullah Al Mamoon NDC, Secretary, Ministry of Information was present as chief guest and distributed certificates among the participants.

Quazi Rownaq Hossain, Senior Vice-President, National Press Club and Saiful Hasan Chowdhury, Director (Public Relations), PDB were present as special guest. BIJEM Executive Director Mirza Tarequel Qader presided over the function.

A total of 22 high level officers of Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Air force, Bangladesh Navy, DGFI, Bangladesh Police, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Sylhet City Corporation, Shipping Corporation, Sylhet Agricultural University, Prime Bank, UCBL, CARITAS Bangladesh, took part in the course.

Academic Innovation Fund

A day long workshop on 'Academic Innovation Fund' (AIF) was held at Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin auditorium of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) on June 17.

Organised by BAU in collaboration with University Grants Commission (UGC) under Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP), the workshop was addressed by UGC chairman Professor Dr A K Azad Chowdhury, present as chief guest. BAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr M A Sattar Mandal was also present.

The other speakers at the workshop expressed that more workshops like AIF are needed to gear up the academic activities at the universities, the highest center of excellent learning.

The workshop was also addressed by BAU syndicate member Principal Motiur Rahman, Dr Md Shams-Ud-Din, MP and Kanis Fatama, HEQEP Project chairman.

Deans and teachers of BAU and Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) took part in the workshop.

Discussion at IUBAT

International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) organised a discussion session on June 26, 2011 with Dr Abdur Rahim, Professor of Qualitative Methods, Faculty of Business, University of New Brunswick Federation, Canada. Dr Rahim expressed the view that quality has got its starting point but does not have ending point in the production process. Nothing is equitably distributed in nature, as such quality management is a global challenge across the world.

In addition, Selina Begum, Director Administer and Coordinator, International Programme focused on the core operational activities of IUBAT highlighting its pioneering role in establishing non-government universities in the country.

Project Fair at Daffodil International University

A project fair was held on June 25, 2011 at Daffodil International University (DIU), organised by Human Resource Development Institute at the DIU Auditorium. Around 13 teams participated in the fair. There were 7 projects, mostly web-based, presented by senior students. These projects were all Excel based. The students used Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) with Excel to produce complete applications. Dr M Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, Dr S M Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder, Dean, FSIT, Dr Yousuf M Islam, Executive Director, HRDI attended the fair among other teachers and distributed the prizes among the winners.

The members of the winner team of Champion in Junior Group were: Amir Hossain, Iqbal Hossain, Lora Annana Bishwas, Rafia Ferdousy, Gobinda Karmakar of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE).

National Budget Discussion held at Southern University

A discussion on National Budget 2011-12 was held at Southern University Bangladesh. The event was titled “National Budget 2011-12: Analysis and Measures”.

The chief guest was Member of Parliament Al-haj Narul Islam, BSC and the special guest was Tajul Islam, Member of Parliament and the member of Parliamentary Finance committee.

Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr Sharifuzzman, Registrar Professor Zahiruddin Ahmed, Dean of Business Administration Dr Abdul Muktadir, Head of Business Administration Ishrat Jahan, former VC Professor Nuruddin Chowdhury, Dr Shawkatul Maher, Professor Mohiuddin Chowdhury, Co Chairman Liakot Ali Chowdhury were also present among others.

The dialogue was presided over by Al-haj Khalilur Rahman, renouned Industrialist and Chairman of Southern University Trust, while the keynote presenter was Dr Saleh Jahur, Professor of Accounting and Finance of Chittagong University.

The programme was conducted by Dean of Business Dr Abdul Muktadir.
