Inter Department Cricket Tournament

Prize giving ceremony of Daffodil International University T-20 Inter Department Cricket Tournament was held on June 10 at DIU Auditorium organised by DIU Sports Club. Professor Dr M Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University was present in the prize giving ceremony as the chief guest and distributed prizes among winners.

The programme was also attended by Professor Rafiqul Islam, Dean, Faculty of Business and Economics, Professor Dr Md Mahbubul Haque, Head, Department of Textile Engineering, Dr Md Fokhray Hossain, Registrar, Mohammed Sakhawat Hossain, Convener of DIU Sports Club and Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Real Estate and Department of Commerce, Mohammad Masum Iqbal, Head, Bachelor of Business Administration Programme, Syed Mizanur Rahman, Assistant Professor and Coordinator, Career Development Center of Daffodil International University. The programme was conducted by Taposi Rabeya, student of the Department of Pharmacy of Daffodil International University.


'Souvenir Shop' inauguration at Northern University Bangladesh

Northern University Bangladesh inaugurated a 'Souvenir Shop' on June 9, 2012. Professor Dr Abu Yousuf Md Abdullah, Chairman, Northern University Bangladesh Trust and Acting Vice-chancellor, Northern University Bangladesh inaugurated this souvenir shop.

Among others, ABM Rashedul Hassan, Treasurer, Dr Md Nurul Islam, Dean, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Professor Dr Sadruddin Ahmed, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Professor A W M Abdul Huq, Dean, Faculty of Law, Professor Saeed Alamgir Jafar, Dean, Faculty of Business, Lt Col (Rtd) Aqtedar Ahmed Siddiqui, Registrar, Professor Dr Mir Mohammad Akramuzzaman, Advisor, Faculty of Science and Engineering, and other important personnel were also present on the occasion.

Students expressed their gratitude to the NUB authority for arranging such a souvenir shop on campus.


Robindra-Nazrul Birth Anniversary

Southeast University celebrated the Robindra-Nazrul Birth Anniversary at the university seminar hall on June 9, 2012. Sree Sudhin Das, Eminent Nazrul Songeet guru was the chief guest. Professor Dr Anwar Hossain, Vice-Chancellor of Southeast University attended the occasion as the Chair. Professor Dr ANM Meshquat Uddin, Pro Vice Chancellor of the University was the keynote speaker. Eminent singer Sadi Mohammad and Ferdous Ara were the special guests in the programme. Professor Syed Fakhrul Hassan, Dean (acting), School of Science and Engineering and Convenor of Robindra-Nazrul Birth Anniversary celebration Parishad and Bulbul Mohalanobish, Chairman (acting), Department of Bangla and Member-Secretary Robindra-Nazrul Birth Anniversary celebration Parishad also delivered their speech.

Students, teacher and officers of Southeast University performed at the cultural programme.


Agreement on Collaboration in Education

An agreement on collaboration in education was signed between East Delta University and Central Michigan University, USA on June 2, 2012 at East Delta University campus. The Vice Chancellor of EDU, Professor M Sekander Khan was the chairperson of the programme. The guest of honour at the programme, chairman of the advisory board of EDU, Associate Dean and MBA programme coordinator at Central Michigan University, USA, Professor Dr Debashish Chokroborty said that the agreement allows academic course transfer in graduate and undergraduate levels, exchange of faculties and staffs, exchange of students for higher studies between the two universities and organisation of international symposiums and conferences.

The special guest of the programme, the Dean of faculties at North South University, Professor Dr Abdul Hannan thanked all concerned in EDU for maintaining the standard of quality education. The Vice Chairman of EDU Trustee Board, Sayeed Al Noman promised the students to provide with all required facilities for ensuring a bright future.


IUBAT Celebrates World Environment Day

International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) organised a seminar on the occasion of Environment Day recently at the Conference Hall of the campus. Speakers spoke on "Green Economy: Does it Include You?”, the theme decided by the United Nation Environmental Programme (UNEP). Presided over by Professor Mahmuda Khanum, Pro-Vice Chancellor, the seminar was attended by Dr M A Hannan, Registrar, Chairs, Coordinators, Faculties and students of different colleges and departments.

The important features of the seminar were discussion on how green economy ensures low carbon emission, which significantly reduces environmental risks needed for ecological balance, how green economy is resource efficient and has new growth trajectories which is socially inclusive and responsive to poverty reduction; how green economy promotes economic diversification and improves human well-being and social security, and many other issues.

In his keynote speech Dr M A Jabber, Chair, Department of Economics furnished the modality of green economy highlighting its significance and capability for U-turning a society from vulnerable stage to a potential society by enforcing green economic order to ensure human welfare, security and equity.


Understanding Balance Sheets

The fourth installment of the Master Class, organised by the BRAC Business School was held on May 31, 2012 at BRAC. It was sponsored by Dhaka Bank Limited. The guest speaker for the event was Sabbir Ahmed, FCA, who worked at KPMG Australia before becoming a partner at Hoda Vasi Chowdhury and Company, the member firm of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu in Bangladesh.

The speaker for the event interacted with a large number of students present at the event and answered questions, using real life situations to help everyone understand the concepts better.


CUDS-Santos Sangu World Environment Day Inter-club Debate

Green technology is a utopian concept for present world" - this was the topic that two finalist teams - Drishty Chittagong and CUDS 11/11 debated on at the Art institution of Chittagong University. 'Shamol Jiboner Jonnoo Sabuj Pritibi' - with this title, CUDS central debate organisation of Chittagong University arranged a three-day programme from June 5-8 2012. About 12 teams from different universities participated in this championship. Most of the motions of the debate competition were related to environment such as GM food should be banned, green technology is a must and developing countries should receive environmental attention.

The guest of this programme was Dr Jahangir Alam Vice Chancellor of CUET.

The champion team of this competition was CUDS 11/11 and runner up of the tournament was Drishty Chittagong.


Art Competition

On the eve of World Day against Child Labour, National Coordination Committee for Workers' Education (NCCWE), in cooperation with International Labour Organisation (ILO) organised an art competition for working children held at the Fine Arts Institute, Dhaka University campus on June 8, 2012. Eminent sculptor Hamiduzzaman Khan inaugurated the competition as chief guest, while ILO Dhaka Office Deputy Director Gagan Rajbhandari distributed certificates among children, as a guest of honour. NCCWE Member Secretary and Bangladesh Mukto Sramik Federation General Secretary Md Mojibur Rahman Bhuiyan chaired the session. Senior trade union leaders, government officials, NGO representatives, academicians and media representatives were present at the event.
