BOOK REVIEW
A Thoughtful Attempt
Promiti Prova Chowdhury
The book 'Rana' by Shahadat Shohag claims to be a teenage novel, though the teenage materials come almost at the end of the novel. For the appearance of the central character 'Rana', you have to read more than half of the book. Written in a clichéd form, the book also talks about women's rights, complicacies of conjugal life, broken relationships, and the teenager Rana's realisations. It also shows how a so-called helpless woman can change her life if she really tries with perseverance. It also draws interesting chemistry among the characters especially between a woman and a child, and explores the complexities of motherhood. Overall, it is a good read and can be meant for passing your leisure.
The book has 126 pages. It first came out in the Ekushey Boimela 2012 from the publication house Shikha Prokashoni. The book is sold at Tk 200, and can be found at several book stores. Comparatively new writer, Shahadat Shohag has dedicated the book to all the teenagers who want to find out where the success of life lies.
