Inauguration Ceremony
ST Peter School of London a direct chain from the United Kingdom has begun its operation in Banani, Dhaka branch by British Management Team. Mr Abul Kalam Azad, MP and Minister for Information and Cultural Affairs, inaugurated the school on June 1, 2012.
Deputy British High Commissioner Mr Nick Low, Mr Benazir Ahmed Police Commissioner Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Mr Showkat Aziz Russell, Managing Director of Partex group and others were present at the programme.
EWU observes World Environment Day
East West University Environmental and Social Club organised a day long
programme to observe the World Environment Day on June 5, 2012 at its permanent campus.
Professor Ahmed Shafee, Vice Chancellor, EWU inaugurated the programme while SSM Sadrul Huda, Assistant Professor, Department of Business Administration and Moderator of the club coordinated the activities. The programme included children's art exhibition on environment, quiz and game show. A large number of students participated in this day long event.
Seminar on Updating Academic Curriculum
A seminar on “Updating Academic Curriculum at Undergraduate and Master's Levels” under Academic Innovation Fund (AIF) was held at conference room of the administrative building of Jatiyo Kobi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) in Trishal on June 5, 2012.
Fine Arts Department of the university organised the seminar. Vice-chancellor of the university Professor Dr Syed Giasuddin Ahmed was the chief guest.
Professor Dr Md Abul Bashar, Dean of Science and Engineering Faculty presided the seminar.
Head of Fine Arts Department Md Safin Omar, an expert of Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) Shishir Bhattacharya, Tapon Kumar Sarker and Md Emdadur Rashed of Fine Arts Department, among others, addressed the seminar.
The speakers said that there is no alternative of gaining contemporary knowledge for higher education through updating academic curriculum at undergraduate and master's level.
Special Talk on Advertising at IUB
The Department of Media and Communication of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organised a special talk on `Advertising culture and career in advertising' on June 11, 2012 at its permanent campus at Bashundhara, Dhaka.
Mr Dave McCaughan, Strategic Planning Director of McCann World Group was the guest speaker of the programme.
The speaker spoke on the topic and mentioned that the global truth of this generation stand out as commune, justice, authenticity and technology. He furthermore stretched on his experience in making advertisements in various countries and gave some tips on localising television commercials to the young students.
The talk was attended by Professor Nazrul Islam, Dean, School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at IUB, Dr Tanvir A Khan, Registrar, and other faculty members, and a good number of students.
Other important members attended the programme. The programme was conducted by Tasneem Sharukh, Senior Lecturer, Department of Media and Communication at IUB.
English in Action Fair
English in Action day long fair was held at National Government Primary School in Mirpur of Dhaka on June 12, 2012. Students, teachers, school management committee, youngsters, guardians and many more participated in this fair.
This daylong fair was open for all. The fair is formally opened by Upazilla Nirbahi Officer (UNO). Upazila Education Officer (UEO), Upazila Secondary Education Officer (USEO) and the local dignitaries were present there too.
Several English booths were provided to boost self-confidence and remove constrains of English learning. In this fair one can find opportunity to get acquainted with EIA class room by utilising modern technology of mobile phone to learn and read English.
Besides, different types of interactive games took place and teacher's booth for English teachers was set up to show English Language based drama 'Shopno hobey Shotti.' Lessons were presented in the booth of BBC Janala.
Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation Visits AUST
A team of experts from Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation (ROSATAM) visited Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) on June 14, 2012. The team met the Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A M M Safiullah, Dean of faculties and heads of various departments of AUST. The team discussed on issues related to development of nuclear workforce in Bangladesh for the nuclear sector and establishment of bilateral cooperation in this field between leading universities, institutes and colleges of both the countries.
The Visiting team spoke about institutional facilities available in Russia and in particular at the Moscow Power Engineering Institute. Discussion was also made on possible collaboration with Russian Universities with AUST.

Masters of Ideation
Young Entrepreneurs Society (YES!), the business club of North South University successfully organised the grand finale of 'Masters of Ideation 2012' on June 17, in NSU Plaza. This was a case solving competition for business students that was started on 26 May with a workshop where 42 teams of 16 universities participated.
Professor Dr Hafiz GA Siddiqi, Vice Chancellor, North South University attended the programme as the chief guest. Md Ahsan-uz Zaman, Additional Managing Director, Mutual Trust Bank Limited, Professor Dr Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Dean, School of Business, NSU and Mohammad Hannan Miah, Faculty Advisor, NSU YES! were also present on the occasion.
In his speech Dr Siddiqi said, “North South University always emphasises the mixture of class room education and co-curriculum activities. This type of competition will develop the entrepreneurship skill of the students.” He thanked all the club members of NSU YES! to organise a successful event.
Moreover, 6 teams competed in the grand finale. Among them 'The Red Trio' of North South University became 1st Runners Up.
