Eid celebrations for all

The spotlight entitled 'From All Walks of Life' dated August 5, 2012 was a wonderful read. It was great to know that the young working people of our society are planning to celebrate Eid in different ways. There were interviews of young vendors, drivers, flower sellers, security guards and so on. While for many of us the Eid vacation has already started, most of these hardworking people will be busy till the night before Eid as they have planned to work extra hours to earn a bit more to save up for the occasion. It touched my heart when I learnt how all of them are planning to buy new clothes for their family members with their limited income. Though each one of us have our own way of celebrating, the joy of Eid can best be realised when it is shared with everybody.

Bringing Diversity

I am doing my internship at Bangabandhu Medical College Hospital. I am from Assam and face difficulties in speaking Bangla fluently. The article called 'Behind the Names' in the last issue of Star Campus caught my attention. The Vietnamese girl wrote in a satirical manner which was very easy to connect with. Star Campus always speaks about the youth. This article was an interesting and different one. Articles on different cultures and languages are always enlightening. Moreover if they are written by people with different cultural and national backgrounds, they become more authentic and it adds variety to the magazine. I am looking forward to reading such articles more in future.

Of Concern

Every week I read the Silly Tales section of Star Campus with interest, though I am not as young as I used to be at once. However, one of last week's silly tales, 'The Lost Library Book', horrified me. This is not a masterpiece of manipulation as said by the writer, but an all-out lie; a student is lying to her teacher. Lying to a teacher is not something amusing. A youth magazine must not teach, directly or indirectly, young people to lie to their teachers or to anybody else. Instead, this sort of magazine should discourage young people to lie. An editor of such a magazine must be more cautious not to publish such sort of silly tales. The editor has a great responsibility to the nation as Star Campus is helping to build the future generation. My personal view about bunking class is that this habit among school goers is also to be discouraged by a youth magazine.

The Ramadan Bliss

The holy month of Ramadan always brings special moments for students. Though students have to go through a busy schedule of classes and exams even during Ramadan, they make good use of their time on campus by having Iftaar with friends and cherishing delicious food. We, at Chittagong University, also celebrate the spirit of Ramadan in a befitting manner. Different cultural organisations and clubs at the university arrange Iftaar parties which ultimately become a get together for old and new friends. The lesson of fraternity that we learn from these Iftaar parties can help us keep our beloved campus free from all forms of violence even after Ramadan.
