Babylon distributes Scholarship

A scholarship distribution ceremony for the talents was held on October 20, 2012 at Babylon Head Office, Mirpur, Dhaka. Professor Dr Wahiduddin Mahmud, Advisor to the former Caretaker Government of Bangladesh graced the occasion as the chief guest and BGMEA Vice-President Farque Hasan, was the special guest. Abidur Rahman, Director, Babylon Group was the president of the programme.
The chief guest Professor Dr Wahiduddin Mahmud said, “Each year many meritorious students secure Golden GPA 5 in SSC Exam. They belong to poor families who can hardly support their higher education. It is a good sign that the business house Babylon Group has come forward and is contributing to this noble cause.

A high delegation led by H E Chang Chun, Member of the Politburo of Communist Party of China visited North South University and NSU Confucius Institute on October 21, 2012. A red carpet reception for the honoured guests was given by NSU authority where Hasanul Haq Innu, Minister, Ministry of Information, Bangladesh, Yuan Gui Ren, Education Minister, China, Xu line, Director General of Confucius Institute, China Headquarter, M A Hashem, Chairman, Board of Trustees, NSU, Dr Khalekuzzaman M Elias, Director, NSU Confucius Institute were present. Dr Md Abdus Sattar, Acting Vice-Chancellor of NSU conducted the programme. H E Chang Chun exchanged his views with students and formally inaugurated a portrait of Confucius, historic fighter of knowledge and education of China.
New Committee of KJHDC formed
On October 10, 2012 the names of the members of the Committee of Kobi Jasimuddin Hall Debating Club of University of Dhaka (KJHDC) for the year 2012-2013 was announced officially. The new members are Jahedul Iftekhar Rifat, Jihad Al Mehedi, Arafat Al Hossain, Ramjan Ali, Hasibul Hasan, Mansur Helal, Sahidul Islam, Muhammed Hussain, Muhammed Al Amin, Mehedi Hassan. The chief guest of the programme was Dr Abdul Bachir, Moderator of Jasimuddin Debating Club. A friendly debate was held at the end of the programme.
Tree Plantation Programme by EUECC
Eastern University Earth Care Club (EUECC) held tree plantation programme at Nawabganj to create awareness on environmental issues among the students of Begum Hasiba High School. Rajib Lochan Das, Coordinator, EUECC and Assistant Professor, Eastern University said that they organise such awareness programmes to protect the environment and for sustainable development.
MBSTU Day celebrated
The 13th founding anniversary of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) institute was celebrated with much enthusiasm and festivity on its campus at Santosh in Tangail on October 12, 2012. Professor Dr Anwar Hossain, Vice-Chancellor, Jahangirnagar University attended as the special guest while Professor Dr M Nurul Islam, MBSTU Vice-Chancellor, MBSTU chaired the programme.
Professor A K Azad Chowdhury, Chairman, University Grants Commission (UGC) inaugurated the programme by hoisting the national and university flags, releasing pigeons and balloons. The day long programme included cultural functions, blood donation campaign, and discussion meetings.

Center for General Education (CGED), Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) arranged a workshop titled 'Case Based Teaching and Problem Based Learning' for the faculty members on October 13, 2012 at its Banani Campus. Professor Mustafa Kamal, Department of Business Administration, NUB was the Keynote speaker at the workshop. He discussed methods of effective teaching and learning. He said that case based teaching and problem based learning is the most effective and useful method for making the students learn.

With the slogan 'Debate for Peace,' the prize giving ceremony of the Intra-University Debate Competition 2012 was held at the auditorium of Southeast University on October 17, 2012. Professor Dr Anwar Hossain, Vice-Chancellor, Southeast University was present as the chief guest. Dr Abdun Noor Tushar, notable media personality and President of Bangladesh Debate Federation (BDF) was present as the special guest.
Teachers Orientation at SUB
The orientation programme of the newly joined faculty members of Southern University Bangladesh was recently held at the conference room of the university. The programme was chaired by Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Sharifuzzman and the welcome speech was delivered by Dean of Business Administration Professor Dr Abdul Muktadir.
Professor Dr Sharifuzzman said that if one wishes to be a good teacher, then he or she should have knowledge about various subjects. He urged the teachers to be passionate, professional and productive.
ULAB launched Center for Bangla Language

University of Liberal Art Bangladesh (ULAB) launched the 'Center for Bangla Language and Literature (CBLL)' at its own campus in Dhanmondi on October 10, 2012. The chief guest of the programme was Professor Dr A K Azad Chowdhury, Chairman (State Minister), University Grants Commission of Bangladesh while Professor Pabitra Sarker, former Vice-Chancellor, Rabindra Bharati University of India was the special guest.
Professor Dr A K Azad Chowdhury gave Keynote speech on 'Practice of mother language in education.' This centre will run under the leadership of Professor Emeritus Dr Rafiqul Islam.
