Industry-Academia Linkage for Textile Education

Department of Textile Engineering of Southeast University organised a round table Dialogue on “Industry-Academia Linkage for the Development of Textile Education in Bangladesh” on October 8, 2011 at Southeast University. Md Ashraful Moqbul, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles and Jute was present as the chief guest. Md Rezaul Karim, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Southeast University and South Asia Foundation was present as the special guest. Professor Dr ANM Meshquat Uddin, Vice-Chancellor (acting) of Southeast University presided over the programme.

Md Harun-Ar Rashid Khan and Advocate Niaz Ahmed, Members of the Board of Trustees, Southeast University and South Asia Foundation, Mohammad Hatem, President of BKMEA, Wahid Uddin, Executive of the Technocrat Enterprise, Ahmed Ali, Vice President of BTMA, Engineer Md Masudur Rahman, President of ITET, Lt Col (Retd) Md Ali Ambial Haque Khan, Registrar of Southeast University, Professor Dr R I Sharif, Dean, School of Science and Engineering, Professor Syed Fakhrul Hassan, Chairman, Department of Textile Engineering and Moderator of the round table dialogue were present at the programme.


Education Minister inaugurates City University Campus

City University's (CU) permanent campus was inaugurated by Nurul Islam Nahid, MP, Minister, Ministry of Education on September 29, 2011 at Ashulia, Savar. The Minister underscored the need for acquiring proper knowledge and use of modern technology to build digital Bangladesh.

The welcome speech was delivered by Professor Dr NRM Borhan Uddin, Vice-Chancellor of City University while Alhaj Mockbul Hossain, Chairman, Board of Governors of CU were present at the inauguration ceremony.

Co-Chairman Golam Fatema Tahera Khanom, Treasurer Ahsanul Islam, Registrar, Assistant Registrar, Departmental heads, faculty members, officials, invited guests representing media personnel as well as students were present in the ceremony.


North South University Signs an Agreement with BD jobs.com

North South University (NSU) and online job portal BD Jobs.com signed an agreement on October 4, 2011 at the conference room of the Vice Chancellor, NSU. Under this agreement NSU will circulate its job positions through BD Jobs ads beside the newspaper and when needed can short-list the candidates using web-based online tools.

On behalf of NSU Belal Ahmed, Dy Director (PR) and Muhammad Anamul Hasan, Zonal Manager of BD Jobs signed the corporate agreement while Dr Hafiz G A Siddiqui, Vice Chancellor, NSU, AKM Fahim Mashroor, CEO, BD Jobs, Dr Abdul Awal, Chair of the Department. of EECS, Brg Gen (Rtd) Mohammad Saber, Director, Admin were present.


Daffodil International University News

IEEE Day-2011

IEEE ComSoc Bangladesh Chapter observed IEEE Day-2011 on October 6, 2011. To celebrate the day IEEE ComSoc Bangladesh Chapter in association with Daffodil International University organised a seminar on “Next Generation Communication Technology and Bangladesh.” Professor Dr M Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, Daffodil International University was present in the seminar as the chief guest while Professor Dr Aynal Haque, Chairman, IEEE Bangladesh section was present as the special guest. Presided over by S M Altaf Hossain, President, IEEE ComSoc Bangladesh, Abu Saeed Khan, Secretary General, Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh was the keynote speaker in the seminar. The seminar was also addressed by Tahera Hossain and Dr Lutfa Akhter of IEEE ComSoc Bangladesh. Shaila Sharmeen conducted the seminar.
A large number of students and faculty members of EEE, ETE and CSE department of Daffodil International University attended the seminar.

It was informed in the seminar that IEEE ComSoc Bangladesh is going to organise the Inter University Student Paper Contest-2011. Students of any university can participate in the contest through submitting his/her paper through www.comsoc.org.bd. The last date of paper submission is November 15, 2011.

National Debate Festival

An eight-day-long Daffodil International University (DIU) National Debate Festival-2011was inaugurated on October 9 at Daffodil International University auditorium. DIU Debating Club organised this festival in association with Oxfam Bangladesh. The festival continued from October 9-16, 2011 at DIU Auditorium. More than 1000 participants comprising of 150 teams from different public and private universities and colleges from all over the country participated in the festival. Management and Resources Development Initiative (MRDI) and Manusher Jannay Foundation was the technical partner.

Md Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees of Daffodil International University inaugurated the festival as chief guest. Professor Dr M Lutfar Rahman, Vice- Chancellor and Dr Aminul Islam, Emeritus Professor of Daffodil International University was present as the special guest. Presided over by Convener of DIU National Debate Festival-2011 and Coordinator CDC Syed Mizanur Rahman, the function was also addressed by Professor Dr S M Mahbubul Haque Majumder, Dean, Faculty of Science and Information Technology, Professor Dr Golam Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Science, Professor Dr M Mizanur Rahman, Dean Faculty of Business and Economics, Muhammed Rashidul Hasan, Moderator of DIU Debating Club, Mehedi Hassan Shoeb, President, DIU Debate Club were present at the programme.

 


Wasfia Conquers Africa

On October 2 Bangladeshi climber, Wasfia Nazreen conquered Mount Kilimanjaro.

Previously, in her launching expedition to Mount Elbrus in July 2011, Wasfia used a female guide. True to her style, Wasfia used a female guide this time as well. Meredith Riley, a female guide of Mountain Guides International (MGI) and one of the official trainers for this campaign led Wasfia and her team in this historic journey.

Wasfia called upon the youth of the country to work like 'siblings of the same womb' and take the Nation forward to the best of our abilities. She also expressed great concern on the environmental situation of the planet and called upon the industrialised nations to take urgent actions.
