Mohammed Moniruzzaman
2nd Place Photography, 2010
A Dream to Fly
Every little child dreams of flying, and this street urchin is no different. Collecting recyclable garbage from the dumps on a daily basis would make one think that the child would never know what it feels like to smile. Yet, even the simplest of things can turn into toys and, even if for a moment, can make him feel as if he has truly sprung wings to take flight.
Mohammed Moniruzzaman is an academician by profession and has taken up photography as his passion since 2006. This particular photograph holds very deep meaning for him, as it shows him that no matter what the circumstances are, a human being will still be able to smile and express joy. Even more so, it portrays the Indomitable Spirit of Bangladesh, and how life always finds a way to succeed in the survival of the human spirit. This second place win was quite a surprise to Moniruzzaman.
